Hiss when accelerating

Good morning,

I took out my air filter last night to check it, and to take a look at the engine bay. I have a 2005 Boxster base.

I noticed a hissing sound when tapping the accelerator, does the AOS hiss when it pumps gasses back into the intake? This is where the noise seems to be coming from

No erratic idle, car drives fine. When I sprayed some soapy water around the area I saw no bubbles either.

Thanks,
Jack

You mean, the sound of air being sucked into the intake, as you have it all opened up, with nothing to muffle this normal sound?

Or is there a separate noise you're referring to?

If you can, try to record the noise and post it here.

Yes, on acceleration, it sounds like a hiss, it is air being sucked in. It is not present on idle.

I marked exactly where it is coming from, I tightened the two clamps, but air is not coming out. I was wondering if it was just a normal sound.

Thanks,
Jack

It's just my guess, without standing next to your car to hear it for myself, but I would guess that the sound you're hearing is normal. When that butterfly opens, the cylinders suck in a lot of air, which makes a loud whooshing sound through the intake.

However, below where you've marked (which is the rubber boots connecting the t-tube to the intake plenums), is also your oil filler tube. I don't know if a cracked oil filler tube would make a whooshing sound. But to check if it's cracked, in the place that it usually cracks, take a mirror and look at the underside of it. Either through engineering, or Murphy's Law, or a combination of the two, the tube usually always cracks at the bottom, where you can't see it. Too bad they don't crack at the top!

Probably just a normal sound, so I wouldn't get worried about it. If you have an air leak, it will usually always show up in the form of P codes. If your CEL comes on, with associated intake air leak P codes, post those codes here and folks will be glad to help you troubleshoot.

I will check the oil tube, I have a little burn off smoke every now and then but not much at all.

Also here is a pic of my AOS, it had a thin layer of oil on it, pretty clean but I do not know what is normal. That is, should it be perfectly clean?

I have had no cel's at all.
