2002 Boxster S - Idles then dies after 30 min

I have a 2002 Boxster S with 87K and it will start, idle for 20-30 min, then turn off. I checked the alternator (was tested and is good) and battery (was bad and got a new one). Despite these remedies it still does the exact same thing. It runs for 20-30 mins then turns off and it won't turn back on - first the starter ignites but then just keeps clicking until the battery is completely drained. Someone suggested it might be an electrical shortage. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello cpaz jr Try to explain your problem with a little more detail so others can try to help you. Engine shuts off by its self? Then the starter cranks but the engine won't start? or the starter cranks then starts clicking after a restart? How long are you cranking the starter before the battery goes dead?

I guess I'm confused. Why would you want to idle your car for 20-30 minutes?

Check the alternator when the engine is hot. Also, check the alternator pulley. It freewheels in one direction. Get something to hold the bolt in the center and then use some pliers to try and turn the outside of the pulley in both directions. It should only turn the center in one direction.

I found out what was wrong

Hey all, sorry for the late response. I wanted to let you guys know that it was the Crank Position sensor that needed to be replaced. The reason I had it idle for 20-30 minutes was to see how long it would stay on before shutting off.

I appreciate you all replying to my thread.
