986 3.2s Bose upgrade
 

Hi,
My 2000 3,2s 986 has the haes 4x40 standard amp with dash and door speakers.
I have acquired a Bose rear sub box that I would like to fit.
I know that Bose do some weird things with the ohms on their speakers and need the Bose amp.
Could I fit a Bose amp and would it be plug and play without cutting the harness???

Changing the door and dash speakers is something I don't mind doing.

The Bose subwoofer wont work with your current system as they use something like 16 Ohm impedance.

Bose isnt an upgrade. I'd really reccomend pricing some nice Boston Acoustics or Focals.

The higher impedance, just means the speaker is easier to drive. 16 ohms is easier to drive, make work, than 8 ohms, 4 ohms etc. it uses less current.

Your difficulty is, that you do not have a channel free on the amp that is a dedicated channel for the sub woofer. It should have it's own channel. Meaning you would have to have a 5 channel amp, with a dedicated cross over to eliminate the high frequencies from going to the sub. From say 120 hz and above. You could make it work with a miss mosh of junk.

I agree with Nostril completely though with speaker choice. I used to sell high end audio. Both car and home. Boston and Focals where our choice for car speakers.
If you really wanna step up your car audio system. Rip it all out and start over...

By the way. We did not sell Bose at all. Home or auto. Sorry to say. The stuff is junk. It's all name recognition and marketing. Any company that sells home speakers with the hype of being direct reflecting is full of crap. Think about that. Direct reflecting??? As opposed to, Indirect reflecting. LOL That is one of the funniest things I've ever heard to this day!!!
