Which Coolant to Use?

I recently steamed most of the coolant out of my 97' due to not putting the rad cap on right. I added universal coolant (from local car parts store) and water to top it up. I've read about not mixing coolants and also read that any coolant that meets or exceeds the Porsche coolant is OK. Wouldn't "universal" be safe for any car? Am I OK? Thanks....

Maybe, or maybe not. In this case, you will be the first to know............

I top it up with distilled water. In case I need more than a cup, or major refill, I use any kind of OAT from any auto parts store.

Great thread and responses. Lots of detail and explination.
I'll have to read my antifreeze bottle to see if it's OAT.
Thanks for the info..... Bob

Big Trk stores (semi) and NAPA sell all ready "charged"anti freez with low PH. SO, if you use distilled water there should not ever be electrolysis or chemical reaction.
You also can buy PH strips to test and add PH balance if and when necessary.
