why are the muffle clamps on the 987 porsche boxster at the tail end of the exhaust system spot welded ? I put the clamps back on without spot welding would that cause a vibration on fast acceleration ?

They are welded for reinforcement. The vibration could be caused by the exhaust being improperly aligned. Check that it is not making contact with the body.
