Battery for 2006 Boxster: Recommendations?

Hello All,

I have a 2006 Porsche Boxster. The battery, which came with the car, will no longer take a charge and needs to be replaced.

Any recommendations for a good value replacement for the battery?

Many thanks.

The battery is not a special part, just a battery. While I went the Optima route just because I wanted to try one, any battery of appropriate size and ampere hours power will do just fine (see owner's manual). Buy on availability, price, warranty.

For the 986, I once had around two dozen known to fit listed but never had a 987 so can't help with specifics. For the 986, the tiptronic car's battery was bigger than the manual trans version so look and see if that matters for your 987.

I just installed a Bosch #48 size in a customer's 2005 Box 5-speed. I believe a Tiptronic Box calls for a #94 size. If your battery will be subjected to neglect or subfreezing temps or you just don't care about the extra cost & weight get the larger size & upgrade to a AGM (absorbed glass mat) battery. I previously installed the Bosch #48 in the same customers BMW, so it seems to be a "European" premium size & are priced accordingly.

If I were shopping for a battery, I would find an Optima that fits - they don't list one for a 987, but I'm sure there's one that will fit in there. I've had 3 of them and they're absolutely fantastic batteries. No problems with them, and no maintenance. One was in a Toyota Tacoma, and 2 others are in constant use, hooked in series to power a 24V electric boat motor. Excellent durability.
