Adding Sport-chrono software after purchase?

Does anyone know if it is possible to add the sport-chrono software to control engine and PDK characteristics to a 2009-2012 car that currently does not have it? I have seen quite a few Cayman without this feature but notice a distinct improvement in driving excitement with it. I don't need the launch control or timer, just performance driving software features.

The DME and some other modules would need reprogramming, and that would require a PIWIS unit, if the factory even allows it.

Yes I figured the sport-chrono software would have to be pushed through. I heard second hand that a dealer could do this but don't know if it is an viable option for a fee. Definitely better driving dynamics in the pdk cars I have driven.

A lot of dealers will not "upgrade" a car that was not ordered with certain features, even though it is a simple software and/or parts addition. The factory figured out that they are losing on these deals and have required the car owner "purchase" the option from the factory before the dealer gets the OK to do the upgrade, and then only if everything is done at the dealership.

The factory OCD attitude creates a great opportunity for an ECU tweak by someone like Softronic ?

I don't have a tremendous amount of faith in those dyno #s but if the softronic flash replicates the sport chrono PDK characteristics it really wakes up the car for performance driving with very precise shifting. A car that is always in exactly the right gear is pretty interesting.

It is absolutely possible to have the 'Sport Mode SW' installed post purchase, by your dealer. I did exactly that with my '12 Cayman R PDK, that I ordered without Sport Chrono as I did not want the dash 'wart' nor the audio package that must be optioned in conjunction with the Sport Chrono. I had my dealer install the Sport Mode software which includes the software itself, plus the 'Sport' and 'Sport+' buttons. While I have used Launch Control a few times, the real bonus is the vastly improved PDK shifting and throttle response.

Yay! thanks for your input DJM. That is exactly what I want to do. Add the sport modes and PDK software without all the bells and whistles.

Sport Chrono is a must if you have PDK. If you a car with PDK, and do not have the sport chrono you should add it. I think they charge 1-2 hours for installation of it.
