HELP – Passenger side airbag deactivation
I need to deactivate to passenger side airbag on my 2002 Boxster S so I can take my boys for rides. They are 5 and 7 and both over 60 lbs. They are in booster seats so I can’t use the Porsche car seat bar that deactivates the airbag. I took the car to my local shop which said they deactivate airbags all the time for people to install race seats. However for some unknown reason when the attempted to make the changes in the computer it through the airbag light which deactivates all the airbags. They said they had never encountered this problem before with any other car. So I then contacted the dealer which obviously for liability reasons they didn’t/couldn’t do anything.
Anybody have any ideas/thoughts/suggestions? My boys really want to go for rides and I know I will get more use out of the car if I can take a kid with me. It’s now a “garage cookie” with 40k miles which rarely gets driven. Some how I doubt I'm the first person to have this problem... |

Hey there
I have a 2000 boxster. I purchased the Porsche OEM car seat harness that is designed to have a Britax or Porsche baby seat system insert a buckle to the harness. The harness sits on the floor under the seat and I then purchased and buckle key from an UK website because I wanted to use a booster as you desire. I then took the car to the dealer and he connected the diagnostic tool to the car and enabled the car seat option for the passenger seat. So now I just inset the key into the harness when my little guy joins me for a ride. When the car starts up, the air bag light flashes a about 30 seconds and then disappears with the air bag disabled. Works great. Hopefully this will help you some. |
