Clutch replacement warning
I've just done a clutch/pressure plate R&R in my '06 Cayman S, and an issue came up that I think bears a warning for others choosing to do the same in their Gen I Cayman or similar Boxster.
I replaced the clutch, pp, TO bearing, and guide sleeve and put everything back together. I drove the car and the clutch felt great, but then I smelled gear oil and after parking the car noticed a trail of oil behind it and a puddle underneath the transaxle. I soon discovered it was gear oil coming out of the bell housing, and I felt sick since I would have to remove the transaxle again, plus I couldn't imagine how it was leaking oil. I found out, after searching and finding some help through one of the Cayman forums, that the guide sleeve has a seal pressed in the back of it that prevents oil from escaping around the main shaft. My sleeve had no such sleeve, and indeed it is a separate part that must be ordered. I simply didn't notice one in the old sleeve I removed, and no one mentioned it in any of the tutorials about how to replace the clutch. The part in my case was no. 013311113C. Radial shaft seal. There is also an O ring in the groove in the housing but mine is still in place, although I will put a new one in when I put in the sleeve with the seal in place. The Porsche mechanic I finally found that knew about this told me it is a common mistake to miss this seal, but none of the DIY's mention it, and it isn't even listed with other common replacement parts for the clutch job. So be careful.
