Hi, have just serviced my Porsche Boxster 1998, the Porsche mechanic has found an oil leak from the rear main seal area? Is that what they call the Gasket seals? Please let me know, or should I just ring the mechanic and ask him??

No, that is an oil seal around the crankshaft. The transmission will have to be removed to replace the rear main seal.

And while you are into that (and have paid for the trans Remove & Replace) consider an IMS, clutch and AOS replacement, all cheaper when the trans is out.

WAIT, just how serious is the leak? Porsche designates a leak as a "constant flow" of fluid. Drips don't count.
