Hello , after reading the article on the 1999 Porsche Boxster problems, it seems like buying a used one could be a certain disaster.
Between the IMS issues block cracks, oil nurturing, I seem apprehensive to purchase.

Would you say it's best to address each of these points w the owner?? Maybe they have taken steps to address, replace, etc. If not, I would most certainly get things done for a hefty price.

Considering its 2015 and buying a 1999 , the mechanics bills could out weigh the purchase price.

Do u have any thoughts??
Thanks

A used one is a good choice. if you have the service records and get a pre-purchase inspection done as a Porsche shop. That way you know what may or may not be wrong.

I can sell you my 99. All issues have been addressed. Engine replaced @ 75000 miles due to IMS failure. Engine had 45000 approximately. Presently car has approximately 113000 and did not have any issues with the car. Car is in a decent visual condition for a 99 model year. Has new top, racing seats (was not raced). Contact me.

You know more about the M96 engine and the Boxster because they are such great cars and because we love them and document everything about them for others to extend their enjoyment for decades to come.

I owned a '99 and wouldn't hesitate to buy one again.

It is a 16 year old car and name me one car/brand that doesn't have increasing problems due to age. Most of the problems are well documented and are ones you can fix yourself. My experience at 5 years of owning 2 was less cost than similar age/mileage Hondas. OTOH, I was into PPIs, preventative maintenance and was lucky.

A '99 should cost 10% of what a new one would cost. It should not depreciate like a new one would (more than the '99 would cost in the first year). It will give you enjoyment if you appreciate what it offers.

If not, move on.
