Water leaking onto carpet
I have a new to me 2000 Boxster S. After heavy rain, and after I washed the car, there was water on the carpet on the passengers side. It did not come from the top, or from above. It seems to come from the center front of the passengers floor area. I looked around the area on that side of the battery area, but could not tell exactly where it might be coming from. I suspect a drain in the front compartment is plugged. Anyone with similar experience? Here in the Pacific Northwest it does tend to rain on occasion......

I think you are correct about the drains. Here's a link to a diagram. Good luck |

Kevin, thanks - that is where I was looking. Not sure which is the culprit, but I might try pouring some water down one drain at a time and see if I can reproduce the leak. It must be one of the front drains from where the water seems to be getting into the cabin.

Sounds like a good approach. The front drain seems more likely to be the problem, but consider checking the rear just be sure.

I'm taking it in for several things later this month, most importantly the RMS that needs to be done. I will have them check all the drains while they have it.

there are drains in the convertible top area. If they get clogged it will overflow the foam container there and then run down the back of the carpet to the lowest point in the car - below the seats.
The real issue here is that the immobilizer sits under the seats -- it gets wet the immobilizer can be damaged and the car will not start. Fixing is a PITA which often requires getting a new immobilizer and then having to have it programmed by the dealership. The other issue that can surprise folks is if they ever had a top replaced and the installer was not super careful -- the top arms can cut the foam. Now the rain runs down the hole in the foam and not the drains. This will result in the same issues as a clogged drain. The drains are easy to inspect -- and the downside is very high -- I would not wait to have it checked by a mechanic. Mike

Thanks Mike - rear drains seem to be working fine. It is dry under the seats. The only water is in the front area passenger side only, and seems to be running in from the very front, center of the area.

Update on the water leaks: Passenger side rear drain did have the usual hole in it and was replaced. However, carpet in the front was still getting wet, just along the console. That looks like it was coming from a rubber 90 degree hose that connects the AC condensation tray with the drain tubing. When you ran the AC it would cause a steady drip onto the carpet in the front. New part ordered. Hopefully that will take care of it all.

Let us know if this fixes the problem because it's the first time I hear of an AC hose causing water damage inside a Boxster.

I have been driving in the rain, and running the AC and the carpet is dry. The old rubber hose under the dash was dry and not a tight fit, even with a zip tie. The new was a much tighter fit. So, with both the rear foam drain replaced and the new connector on the AC drain, no more water leaks.

My mechanic ordered the part for me - it's about a 3 or 4 inch 90 degree rubber hose fitting. It is under the passenger side dash, connecting the condensation tray to the hose that leads out of the car. You can see it under the dash if you look inside, above where the passengers feet would be. When they ran the AC they could see water dripping from the end of the connector. I'll contact my shop and see if they have a part number. They did not charge me - I have spent enough on them they had pity on me - so I don't have an invoice.

I'm thinking it's this part number HERE. It doesn't have a 90 degree bend in the drawing, but Porsche specifically calls it a water drain tube. Here it is on the PET diagram for reference.

Also, there might be a part number on the hose that you can check to compare with the number above.

Luccia - those do not look like the part. I don't know if it is specific for the 2000 Boxster S, but the part number the shop gave me is: 997 573 797 00. Hope that works for you Glosboxster. It was about an $8 part, and took care of the issue.
