What is this?
A question for the Boxster/Cayman boffins. I track my 2007 Cayman S regularly and noticed a clicking or rattling sound from somewhere behind. I put the car up on my lift and the only thing I could find was this loose rod on the driver's side just in front of the half shaft with an electrical connection (with loose cover). Suspension travel potentiometer? There is not a matching one on the passenger side. There is also some scraping on the suspension upright where the rod contacts when moving up.
Car is heading to race shop next week anyway so it would be nice to have more background information.

Can't see what's loose but I'm guessing it's the headlight leveler, should have one on the rear also. The rod is fairly cheap.

Thanks! I had no idea what that was.

Yes. However, the car is 90% HPDE and 10% street driven. I trailer the car to any event more than 100 miles and rarely drive at night. Given that, can this be removed?

Only the Litronics had the headlight levelers.
You need them to drive on the street. |
