Convertible Top Issue

Hey All,

I've picked up a basic 2001 Boxster as my new project car. Only 78k miles on it from the original owner who bought it brand new way back when.

I've been making some basic changes to familiarize myself with it but I'm baffled by something that no one can seem to help me figure out.

I think "I believe" that the convertible top motor pump is dead. In order for me to replace it, I need to open the convertible enough to put it on service mode. Obviously I cannot because I can't get the top open.

Can anyone please offer me advice on how to get this top open? Is there a manual process of doing this? I'd like to get to the engine compartment as well.

Thanks in advance!

I'm new at this, but did you have the parking brake in the full up position ? Their is a lock-out ,if it is not and the system will not work.

Honestly, I know nothing about Porsches other than what I've been replacing on my own. I'm historically an Audi guy. I hadn't known that having the ebrake up would cause it to lock. I'll give it a try in the morning! Thank you!

I did not know ether. I found a week motor.
That will be a future job. Just use the "Search" area and enter what your looking for. The net has everything. Some GOOD and some POOR ? Also check the back seat pocket . Maybe the owners manual is in one.

Good morning!

I fired up the car, disengaged the ebrake and still no luck with the convertible going down. Something I did notice - regardless of whether the ebrake is up or not, the light for the convertible stays on - even while I drove it around the block.

I gather then it's the motor. Just have to figure out how to get to the engine with the top still up.

Thanks again!

The parking brake needs to be in the full "UP" position, engaged. ! It may still me a bad motor ?
Porsche did not want the car to be moving when the top was going up or down.

Understood. It does make sense too. It most likely is the motor so I've just ordered a replacement. I just have to figure out how to get in there to replace it.

Thank you again!
