P1325 & green rubber plastic bits in the oil - Is the end near?

Got a CEL yesterday after replacing an exhaust midpipe.
P1325 - Inlet Camshaft at bank 2

This morning... changed the oil.... and this was on it.

Some say its from the o-rings around the spark plug but the master Raby says its from the vario-cam chain adjuster.

Has anyone else dealt with this issue? My boxster 2.7L only has 48k miles.

That's chain rail bits. A lot of it. The end isn't near but this has to get fixed.

I'm not sure what pictures you want to see. The plastic is from the cam chain guide rails as Jake has indicated. If too much of the chain rail disintegrates then you don't have the appropriate tension on the chain. If the chain jumps a tooth then your timing is off and you could have destruction of the engine when valves and pistons interfere with each other. That's why I said it needs to be addressed. Plus you want to make sure that those plastic bits don't get ground up smaller and end up blocking key oiling orifices. You said your engines a 2.7. The early 2.5's were five chain engines, and less likely to jump timing. I'm not sure if all 2.7's are three chain, but the three chain are more likely to jump when they lose tension. Do a search on the pelican tech articles for Boxster's and you should see an article on replacing the chain ramps or chain tensioners. I'm not sure you want to try this as a DIY without fairly good mechanical skills, as you need to lock the engine cams in place before doing any of the work. The article at least gives you an idea of what needs to be done.
