2000 Boxster S for sale
All,
My father recently passed away. He had a 2000 Boxster S with 37,400 miles on it. The car is in great shape for 16 years old and wanted to get your opinions on what is a reasonable selling price. I can go through a broker, or through the forum. The car has never been wrecked, and he bought it in 2005. This is a standard S package. Only put on 17,400 miles in 11 years. I can post pictures but wanted to get some thoughts on possible selling price. He gave me his first Porsche a 77 911S in 2005........I drive it every day and absolutely love the car. Let me know you're thoughts.

All,
I've received several private messages regarding the car. Let me answer some of them.... 1. The top on the car.....It's in perfect shape. No tears or leaking, the back window not cloudy or cracked. The car has always been stored in a garage with a cover. 2. Color......Car is silver, black top 3. Pictures....I will post pictures as soon as possible (I live in a different state) 4. Selling price.....I really don't know yet as I've not found many Boxsters that are 16 years old with only 37,400 miles. Quite honestly, I was hoping this forum would give me an idea of what the average price would be. Perhaps after I post pictures that will come. Thanks

Depends on condition and maintenance history (IMS done?). Max I'd say $15,000 to the right buyer, lower if you want to move it faster, especially during the winter.

Maintenance history documented?
Tires. Brand, condition, date? Transmission? Options? (Look under the front trunk lid and see the sticker. Compare to this to get a list of what it was built with. If I were selling this car, I'd place in the ad some of the above information. It shows you are knowledgeable, answers some questions, and weeds out those looking for something different than what you have. I'd post on craigslist in Atlanta and Savannah for starters. Maybe 2 pictures but when I sold mine in 3 hours or so, a simple text ad got people begging me to hold it. Good luck. |

Thanks Mike. I'll certainly do that, had no idea it listed that info under the front hood.

If you can post the VIN I'll post the build sheet. It will be helpful for your sale if you have all the options.

Sean ,
Id say its worth a hundred bucks. Which I will gladly give you tomorrow (US Dollars) ! HaHaHa – just kitten. Kidding about the hundred bucks part, not the I'll give it to you tomorrow part cause I really would. HaHaHa – thats funny too. There is brand new website I'll been using for several years: SearchTempest SearchTempest: Search all of Craigslist nationwide & more Its a search engine for CraigsList. A quick look puts your dad car at a low of approx. 15-16K and a high of maybe 18-20K. Depends how long you can wait for the right “buyer”. That's an actual (tho very quick cause I'm a super math wiz) average of sim. models years and mileage. FYI: Asking here what a vehicle is worth here is going to get a lot of low ball estimates. Do your own research. Just sayin... Good Luck

Thanks Tom,
I will. Just didn't have a lot of experience with the Boxster and wasn't sure where to start. I've since found the original bill of sale from Indiana and know exactly what I have and it's value. If I decide to sell, I'll post the info on this forum. Thanks to all for their input.

Sounds like a nice low mileage car...
The only challenge is that there are tons of these for sale... I would guess $13-14,000 is full retail... Sell it now, in the winter? $11k or so... Spring? $13,000 |

Probably lots of them for sale, they made lots of them, but try to find one with 37k miles. I would suggest there would be a premium for a really low miles car like that.
They are great cars for the money!

For what it's worth, this is what I found out about value in a Boxster.
I have a '99 base. I'm the second owner and I bought it with 70,000+ miles on it. I'm the second owner. The body is in perfect shape with excellent paint (german racing silver) and the top is very good as well. the interior is in very good condition (guards red) the previous owner bought the car with BBS LM-R 19" wheels, had headers and test pipes installed. Also less the front set of cats. Also with a Brembo brake package, and a replumbed intake (cold air) system. he had replaced the Porsche stereo with a top of the line pioneer cd system. Essentially, he had every option you put on a base box. I replaced the IMS bearing, clutch, water pump, coolant tank, RMS. I started to wonder what it would cost in the "real world" if I wanted to by another one, or a 2.7L 986 (say 2000 model). I could find cars 986 '00's in fair to middlin' condition, that were just plain stock, with a paper trail, with none of the optional items I have for $15k. that was without the "must fix "items". Then, I'd have to spend another $15K to get one back to where I am for just .2L. I think with the performance mods on my 2.5L I'm probably equal, or more HP than the 2.7 anyway. So if I were you, I'd take a lot of that into consideration.... But that's just my opinion......... Tim |

wonder what he ever decided to do.
Tim, you are looking at asking prices if you think a stock '99 goes for $15k. More like half of that for most actual sells. And the mods never bring anything near what their original cost is. Can even put some people off thinking it isn't stock so the dealer may have trouble or the smog won't pass or .... autotempest.com works well for searching multiple Craigslists. I sold a '01S with new (I classify 200 miles as new) PS2 N-rated Michelins, Optima battery, outside cover, not a scratch etc needing nothing 4 years ago for $13.5k. Note that was 4 years newer then! All,
Thanks for the info. I think I'm just going to keep it for now. Sounds like could have issue with the IMS bearing as I can't see this was ever addressed. Great news is the car runs perfectly, top is great, and body has never been wrecked. Anyone know a good place for a PPI in Nashville? Thanks
