Cayman GT4 RS Rumor...?
Both Auto Express and Autocar are reporting that the same 4.0L flat-six engine from the incoming facelift 911 GT3 RS/R will be dropped into a Cayman GT4 RS. Could it be?! The GT4 has been a popular choice for Porsche buyers, heck my neighbor has a Voodoo Blue one!

Why would they? they already have a mid engined RSR with that engine. Where's the added value in competing with their own ?

Audi uses the same engine in multiple different platforms as well. For example, the 2017 S6 has a 4.0L V8 twin turbo and the RS7 has the same engine, but slightly larger turbos and a different tune. They also weight about the same and their overall dimensions are almost exact - S6 194″ L x 74″ W x 57″ H, RS7 197″ L x 75″ W x 56″ H. Not comparable, but Ford also puts the EcoBoost engine in a lot of different platforms. It's a common thing that automotive companies are doing now-a-day.
Point is, they aren't competing when they offer different price points and different HP outputs with each vehicle. The S6 is around 70k with 450hp as the RS7 is 110k+ at 605HP. They can target individuals with different pricing points without spending a lot more on RnD for different spec engines. |

point is, the RS is for racing and there can only be one winner.
They already have a mid engined flagship there. No room for 2

Looks like there was a change to the RSR engine placement. More info and discussion on it here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-autocross-track-racing/943913-new-911rsr-rolex-24-daytona.html
