I am looking at an 2002 Boxster with 22K miles. Price is reasonable, and I am happy to spend some additional funds to make the car current. Runs and drives well and is very clean, but the car is in the middle of nowhere, so I will just have to buy it without getting it to a Porsche mechanic first we have a few where I live. Bad idea?

I would not buy any Porsche without a PPI. Is there any repair history for the car? If the car was worked on by a non specialist I'd be very careful.

If the price
reflects the risk. Without a P-car mechanic nearby, what maintenance has it skipped? Have records? Was every time it was stored away the oil changed just before? (At least yearly.)
A normal shop should be able to pull the oil filter and inspect for iron particles. Also look at the age of the tires. (Sidewall) |
