I am using an adjustable spark tester to check the spark on a 1998 boxster 986. What would be the voltage output of the coil so I can set the distance on the tester to be sure the coil is putting out the appropriate voltage to bridge gap?

I don't use those testers. I prefer HEI style testers that requires 28Kv to fire. Here is some good info on spark testers:
