97 Boxster Running Hot
Bought my first Boxster and noticed the temp on the freeway at 80mph was running near the mark past the 180. Turned the AC off and it didn't change the temp. I checked the coolant and its at the right level.
Any ideas or suggestions on how to figure it out? Thanks, Brian

Two things. The fans have a tendancy to fail after a while, and 20 years is a while. Start the car and turn on the a/c. Get out and listen to make sure both fans are running at each radiator. If one is not working then you need to replace it.
The other problem is a bit more work but no parts. You'll need to remove the front bumper cover and then separate the a/c condenser from the radiator on each side. It is only a few screws. You will be blown away by the amount of crud between the condenser and rad. This is a necessary and 'once every 5 year' maintenance. These motors do not like excessive heat. It'll crack the heads and give you an oil/coolant intermix before you know what's happened. I'll look for my post on this and add it so you can see what I mean. I found sand, leaves, fluff, cigarette butts, you name it. The worst part is you cannot see anything until you pull it apart.

BTW, I tracked my '98 Boxster as well and still had high temps. I ended up putting in a center radiator from a Boxster S. Worked flawlessly after that even on 90 degree days running hard. Check out Pedro's Garage for installation instructions.
