Since the "16mm triple-square anti-tamper socket Hazet 2567-16" creates so many issues, wouldn't it just be easier to change the plug to one with the same thread but a more conventional tool type?

If you have a dealer change the plug for you the next time it is serviced, you won't even have to buy the tool and you can do it yourself, in the future. Of course, if you already bought the tool it is a mute point!

A plug is still just a plug, regardless of the tool used to remove it!

Also, if the various plugs coolant, oil, trans, etc. still have a chance of leaking, even after being properly torqued, why is it no one puts a single wrap of nylon sealing tape around the threads for insurance?

Yellow sealing tape is used for natural/propane gas lines so your house doesn't blow up and white sealing tape keeps your water pipes from leaking. Why not on your car?

You'd have to find a plug with the same material, but it is possible to replace it that way. No thread sealing tape is needed, it has a sealing washer. It adds nothing putting it on.

I don't think I'd bother. You can get the proper tool at places like Pep Boys for around $10 to $12. While you're at it, get a supply of new copper or aluminum washers. If you want to get a new plug for something, get a magnetic drain plug for the engine oil pan.
