Roundup?
Anyone (besides Doug of course) thinking of heading down to Washington for the roundup?
I am still working on getting time off and trying to head down. Tim are you going to make the Trek from the North? And Michael if I am going I will really be bugging you to come so be prepared. Shawn

Shawn,
What is the "roundup" all about, first I've heard of it? Thanks, sounds interesting?

I'm trying to put together a small Southern Alberta VW show, I may extend it to Porsche or any other German cars if theres enough interest.

Rob This is going to be the second annual run last one was in BC from Coquitlam to Squamish. It was a great time and put on by Doug Zielke, he did a great job. This year it is going to be in the Washington and Marc Sanders (DRAGO) is putting it together. The run is going to be great, I am just hoping to get time off work in order to attend.
Try this link for more info http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=94844&highlight=roundup or PM DRAGO for additional info, this is truly an event not to miss, even if it is only 1/2 as good as last years. Violent I will be there even if it is just a VW show and I have the time off. I am in the process of buying a WESTY I think I found a deal that might to too good to pass onShawn

Yeah, I did read about that back in Jan/Feb? Sounds like fun, I'm making plans to attend too.
What do you do from the Hat? Do you just meet up at Hood River or go to Seattle for the whole trip? or what? I'd probably meet them in Seattle and go the distance, just wondering how you manage from there? Thanks!

I haven't heard too much from Round-Up 2 organizer, Marc Saunders, lately. He's pretty busy with his family, but I'm sure he's got the event planning well underway.
I've had a sneak preview of the route, and it looks to be a very enjoyable drive. The "R-Gruppies" have nuthin' on us!

Plans are still in place and looking good. Likely I'll travel the same route as last year, down the Yellowhead to Kamloops. From there, don't know. Rob, where is the best boarder crossing?
It would be great to meet up again and caravan down. Tim |

I don't suppose there's any chance of you guys taking the scenic route (via Newfoundland) is there?
Enjoy your trip, Gary

As the Round-Up is actually under the auspices of the SCWDP, and *you* are an SC owner, I think you must show solidarity with your brothers and make the trek west. If you do, I will personally award you with the "Long Distance Driver Award".

Tim: I'll meet you in Kamloops. My cabin is only 1/2 hr from there, if you want a night or two rest there, no trouble for us! It's a great spot for R&R.

And just let you know that the Mobil 1 is leaking from my engine right now! Actually just one leak, have to fix that! The tire spikes are a different story, you guys sure are persistant. Amazing what Shawn and I had to go through just to get across the Alberta/BC border checkpoint.
Rob: that is a great offer. I might just take you up on that. I heard the Okanoagan Springs Brewery has introduced a Barvarian Lager. May have to sample it to see how it compares with originals from Das Vaterland. Tim |

Round-Up Info?
Canadians,
As the Round-Up is a Can-Am event I impore you "northerners" to make a strong showing. We'll be leaving from the Seattle area the moring of July 26th. From there we'll head around the east side of Mt. Rainier and then Mt. St. Helens and then southward to Hood River, Oregon. I have a block of rooms at the Hood River Inn (Best Western) booked under the group name Rain-Forest Round-Up....call and book a room if you intend on making the trip......rooms are few and far between as we'll be in Hood River during the height of the wind-surfing season and Hood River is sort of a Mecca for that particular activity. Second day has us on a 300 mile loop throught the high Oregon desert.....5 mountain passes and plenty of twisty canyon roads.....and the best part, it's all in the middle of no where....as in zero traffic. or so I've been told. Several of us intend on staying in Hood River again Sunday night and then driving the reverse of Saturday's route home on Monday...but really, after the loop on Sunday the Round-Up is officially over. I hope as many of you can make it as possible. More details to follow as we're planning to pre-drive the route sometime in the next few weeks. I'll cross post then on the PNW, Canadian and main Tech boards. Marc Sanders marcsanders68@yahoo.com

Yeah, Bob just put twin turbos in at his place and he's opted out this year? Hee hee.
How are the twins Bob? Getting any sleep? See ya soon for our awesome trip to Portland Tim! Counting the days! I'm putting in my brushed aluminum pedals this weekend too. Hoping some other Albertans will be able to join us in Portland. My son from Calgary confirmed that he's going to join me for the trip too. (Shotgun)
