Moving to Calgary

Moving my family to Calgary in September for next 4 years due to work. Any recommendations for a shop to service my 81 SC? Also, does Alberta have emissions requirements, such as we have in BC, ie. AirCare? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Michael

No Aircare type...but you might need to get an out of province inspection done. Call Riegel Tuning...www.riegeltuning.com

Lots of car related events going on here in the summer.

Welcome Michael,

A couple of good shops in town, but there's not more fun than doing it yourself ;D

Just keep your beer fridge stocked for your Porsche buddies

You could try Marc Boulanger at Alpineautowerks (www.alpineautowerks.com ).

I'm not so sure that there are any shops in town that I would take either of my cars to these days. Emre at Riegel knows his stuff and does good work. There are a number of us here in town that wrench on our own cars and would be happy to give you a hand.

Hell no. Its Alberta, you can drive with no cat and an open exhaust while throwing motor oil at hippies. This is God's country. For now.

Michael:
Email me when you get here. If you are up for the drive, i know of a ex-porsche racing mechanic in the area. He helped me build my monster 3.8ltr turbo motor. He works on porsches (german cars) part time and is very reasonable. His neighbor builds NASCAR race motors. But depending on what you need, there are many of us that can help you out.
Get the out of province inspection at alpine - they pointed out a few things that i needed to take care of but passed it fine. The cost of the inspection is well worth getting Alberta insurance opposed to paying the ICBC crappy rates.
You will have to find a insurance company. I have one that is great and cheap that provides a 'engineer's' discount. You may want to consider an insurance company that allows you to insure for part of the year and comprehension while its is parked in the garage during the winter (unless you are planning to drive during the Chinooks).

I had my out of province inspection done a Alpine as well.
They passed the car, charged a reasonable rate and didn't hold me hostage!
No extra work was required.
YMMV.

Welcome to Alberta

Alpine just did an out of province inspection on a car, which had safety inspection wheel alignement and brakes done in BC and he listed on the inspection sheet.

Needs new rotors,
Needs Alignement
needs Int. light bulb
and failed the car.

Looks like he needs the money very bad after his Partner split and is pampering his
bills.

He never will see any of my Porsche's in his shop.

Fritz...there is something wrong here. I know Marc very, very well. He just doesn't do that sort of thing. He's a smart guy and he knows how small the Porsche community is here in Calgary. I'd suggest you go back and talk to him.
Best...
Mike

Eek. That doesn't sound good. I hope you are able to get to the bottom of it!

Yep, that's Alberta.

Very polite, considerate drivers and greatly concerned about the environment.

God's country for sure; no Rednecks or Yahoos. :D

Anyone coming along to NE Oregon Oct.9-11 for a religious experience?
