Tires in Canada?

Hi all,

As per http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/536164-1980-911sc-15-inch-tire-choices.html I'm looked for some new tires for my SC.

Looking at buying from Tire Rack, excellent prices but expensive shipping to Canada.

Any suggestions / advice / experience from fellow Canadians?

You might want to try TireTrends™ : Save on tires, wheels, suspension & brakes! in Canada. I ordered from there years ago and compared to tirerack it was a bit cheaper delivered.. 1010 tires is also an option.

I bought from tirerack and even with brokerage,GST,shipping, etc. were about $150 cheaper.

I've done 3 group buys at Tire Rack with my friends.
If you can get 4 or 5 sets put together, Tire Rack will ship via transport, instead of UPS and the shipping cost drops dramatically.
We currently have an order in for 10 sets and the shipping is around $450. UPS would have cost $1500.

Thanks all,

I was leaning towards Bridgestone Pole Position, but Canadian Tire has Eagle GTs on sale (buy one, get one 1/2 price).

Does anyone have any experience/opinion with Eagle GT on 911s?

The real issue is what do you intend to use the tires for? I don't know about your location, but around here, there are very few places you can drive in a 'spirited' manner on the roads. They are mostly straight, with few curves that are interesting unless you are travelling at a speed that will land you in jail. So I just put good all season tires on the car for street driving, and then have a set of 17" rims with high performance tires for on the track. If you can't afford dedicated track tires, or you actually have roads you need better than normal tires for, I would keep looking.

If you are close to a US border, ship to a UPS store. They will charge you a very small fee (5-10$). I go to Ogdensburg NY and bring stuff across myself and pay the taxes. I have saved a small fortune in shipping and brokerage.

Thanks, we have very few straight roads, most have lots of curves and dips.

I use this car for "spirited" street driving, no racing.

Higher prices plus they quoted me 160.00 for shipping......

Cheers

Thanks for that link Jeff, maybe 2Kool hasn't adjusted prices for the current exchange rates, but if I look at a quote from discount they charge $160.00 Canadian Tarriff Fees so pretty much the same as 2kool charges for shipping. However discount's tires are still cheaper by $20-$30/tire at least on the Nitto NT01 I looked at. So as long as the Cdn dollar is as strong as it is, they are a better deal.
