Fun at the track

Well, did a 1.08.6 at the track in Stratotech this past weekend - slower than a 996 on Hoosier R6s by only 2 seconds and faster than a newer guy in a 996 GT3 :)

Looking forward to the next event out there, looks like an interesting track.

See you Monday?

andrew15 06-11-2010 08:40 PM

Yup, it's a fun little track
I'll be out Monday for sure.

Here's the video of 2 hot laps

Oops. looks like I won't be there, needed to get the car inspected, Alpine could do that, but I was going over it on the weekend and discovered a crack in the windshield I hadn't seen before. Worse, since I pulled the rollbar that was in it and haven' t replaced it yet, I need to use the regular seatbelts, and the driver side looks like something sharp was dragged across it as it has a shallow cut. SO that needs to be replaced. Oh well, looks like it is going to be another wet one, so I guess I will be out for the next CSCC event instead.

Nice pics and vid. Car sounds good.

Here's some fun at the track I had a couple of weeks ago.
How's this for a big fast autocross?

Those two action shots were taken by a guy at an open track day - he basically shows up with some great equpment, shoots all day and sells a cd of the images for $20.
I think he's a university student, so $20 x 30 or so cd's isn't a bad way to earn some scratch :)
I'm going to another day on Tues - supposed to be a bit rainy, so I hope to get some interesting shots.

AM

Here's one of Roberts Carrera from the same day:

Tuesday? Any openings?

Jim2 06-21-2010 10:59 PM

So Robert, how's the 911 on the track?

rvanderpyl 06-22-2010 05:51 PM

It is good, but the cut-out switch has to go, the current fine track conditions are vibrating the connections loose and causing the engine to cut-out at least a couple times a day. I needed to weld the muffler back together as it was cracking, and I think I need to go over the front end, as it had a pretty bad knock by the end of the day.

But overall it is a lot faster than anything else I have had out yet. I can (mostly) stay with Andrew :)

Jim2 06-22-2010 08:45 PM

Intermittent cut-out occurred a couple times but neither Rick or I could find anything obvious.

Check the steering rack bushings on either end of the rack. One bushing had popped out and was producing a knock. The late 80's racks have a circlip versus the early racks which use a friction washer. If the bushing gives you grief keep your eye out for later rack. Our "local" used parts warehouse may have one.

Well I ended up finding a loose, and then broken as I moved it, connection to the resistor. So I removed it for the day as I didn't really expect to use the switch to kill the engine, and I think that is there for alternator protection ? I am going to jack the car up today and go over everything, as well as bleed the brakes, so I will check the bushing. I had one 'off' so that may have contributed to some looseness
