What did you have to give up to get your car?

Some people have to sacrifice a lot to get their P car some don't, I quit smoking for it but it was time, and I gave up the wifes new kitchen for the 930, she was a little chocked about it for a few days but she loves it now, and really she only had 2 choices, get over it or die mad, she got over it.

Well, Im building my dream car. Bought a 83' SC shell and turning it in to a 964 turbo bodystyle. I spend about 10 hrs a week on it and i couldnt be happier. I dont eat out anymore, dont go for beer with the guys as much and i dont travell as mush as i did in the past....but its worth it for a dream that ive had since i was 4yrs of age. life is short.

I bought an 83 SC as a toy/project a few years back. I spend a good part of my days off out in the garage with it. It makes the wife happy as I stay out of her hair and it keeps me busy. Haven't really given up much, maybe a few less toys for the GTi.

Sorry; to me it's not a compromise, You either want one and have the means or you don't. There is a good new VW commercial about wanting a car. Everyone should check it out.

+1 - No compromise, except for the garage space but have just fixed that issue with the lift

Retiring... for the second time.

Definitely worth it and I don't think the wife could take me being home anyway, so might as well get toys.

didn't really give anything up, but.................... as I'm often pointing out to my wife. I don't watch sports, don't go drinking with the guys, and while I do spend a substantial amount of time in the garage, I'm only 30 feet away.

a number of years ago we came up with what we call 'THE PORSCHE FUND' . basically all porsche money is separate from the family finances. a separate bank account and a separate credit card. I don't get any $$ input from the family. so anything I do 'porsche-wise' is not a family financial issue. I make money for the fund by selling parts ( occasionally parting cars ) and any money I spend on porsches comes from the fund. saves a HUGE amount of spousal stress. usually just limited to eye-rolling and comments like 'when are you going to get that shell out of the yard' . a few pelicans I know have instituted a similar program and by all accounts it works well.

just my $.02 ( from the fund )

Thumbs up

Gave up?

Horses, airplane, about $100K and a lot of time.

Numerous long drives to NE Oregon (Shaniko-Fossil), Escalante and Bryce Canyon made up for it.

And, of course, the 20 Mile curvy run out of Torrey, UT, going uphill to the 9600 ft level. Now that's paradise.

Nothing really.

But it took some cell phone yapping idiot in a car who rammed into the back of my motorcycle that made me decide to get the dream car I always wanted.

Spend some time in a hospital and you realize life can be short.

I had to toss out a load of junk that was stored in the garage. Mostly a positive thing.

Now I walk the perimeter of the car and keep a four foot clear zone and a clear path for launch.

Many, many Saturdays and a portion of my eyesight. Defective auto dimming welding helmets are not good for the retina. The Porsche is worth it though.

I also gave up smoking for it, and my deal is if I start again I will sell it. It will be 4 years April fools day and I would still love one.

I had to sell my supercharged NA Miata to make room for it. But when another fun car came into the garage, the 911 stayed. It's just too special in my eyes. Wish I still had that little Miata....such a fun little car.

I'm about to find out...

Seriously, probably move or eliminate the wood workshop (dang dust) and have a huge tool sale in April to help pay for the P-car toys. Other than that, nothing. I've earned it!
