Favour From Calgary 3.2s

Hi, I've been talking with my brother for some time regarding me buying his 86 Carrera but the car is in Seattle so I cannot kick the tires as it were. It has been some time since I've driven let alone been in an 80's 911 (Drove a friends 993 C4S about a year ago but that doesn’t count).

So the ask is if there is a local Calgary 3.2 owner who would be willing to meet and show me their car and talk about ownership etc. that would be very much appreciated. One thing about car people is that they love to talk about their cars so here's hoping.

Cheers,

John

I'm off to get the car on Friday this week; it's in Seattle. I'll post some pics from the drive home. :)

Best wishes on your new purchase, are you prepared for the export/import with the proper notice to US customs and documentation for Canadian customs etc? (That is if it's registered in the US)

If not let us know and we can provide some direction?

Hi. Yes I believe I have a decent handle on it after consulting the sticky thread in this forum. I do have a couple of questions: I'm crossing into bc but live in Alberta so I assume no bc provie sales tax? Also the odometer very very recently decided to quit so I'm a bit concerned the mileage at the boarder is going to be the same on the bill o sale. I'm not sure this isn't a triviality but boarder people can be pretty pedantic.

Paperwork to the American side 72 hours before you cross with the car.
Not too sure about crossing into another province other than Alberta.

I can't remember all the details, it has been 6 years since I brought the SC back.

Good luck with your drive and have fun!

You pay GST and duty when crossing the border and pay your provincial stuff when you register the car in your province .

As the car is RIV exempt does it need a federal inspection or just an out of province inspection?

Cheers,

- EDIT

Called Service Alberta, needs only an out of provie... No federal needed. Very pleased as now I dont have to take the car to Canadian Tire :S

I just had an out of province inspection done.

If you have more questions call Good Car Solutions, it's a friend of mine's company and they bring cars up from the US as a business (started out as a hobby). They know everything about importing

Got to Seattle today. Very pleased with the car. It's laughably rustic compared to the car it replaced - a modified V8 Audi s4. It's also way harder to drive fast, the s4 was fast. And easy fast. . But the carrera is super cool and I love it. Tomorrow many hours on the road to invermere.

You are right about "super cool", enjoy the ride and post photos along the way.

Made it back. Had a great drive albeit a hot one; the ac hade been long ago removed. The car ran like a boss, used no oil and was actually quite comfortable. The Canadian boarder guys tried the ol "oh you gotta good deal" bit to try and extract a few more tax bucks and tried to make me pay duty. Other than that it was all good.
