New guy in Toronto
Hello Canadian Pelicans! My name is Mike and I'm a "new" arrival to Canada and the GTA. I got myself an old Porsche to tinker with and hope to connect with fellow locals and share the passion for these cars. Early morning drives, rallies, autocross, workshops or just coffee and chit chat. Recommendations? Hopefully I can attend many of these and get to know the local crowd.
I will no doubt also have many questions for you locals. The first being whether you know of any "enthusiast garage" where one can rent space to store and work on the car? Or if anyone has or knows of garage space available, suitable for light tinkering? I'm in the Parkdale / Liberty Village area of Toronto but anywhere within 30 mins drive/bike/walk/TTC would work. The car? A black on black -74 Targa bought from a friend in Guelph (Mike K). It has spent all its life in and around Toronto so perhaps you have seen it. It seems to be in decent nick. A 3.2 motor was put in by Mantis in 2010 and it was rebuilt in 2014 by Auto Evolution in Oakville. The 915 feels good. It had a (cheap) respray in 2010 and some decals were added lately. https://www.dropbox.com/s/2j8jkm1xxa...Targa.JPG?dl=1 That's the starting point. I don't have any lofty goals with the car but hopefully some small alterations will happen... Maybe euro H4s, chrome side mirrors and cookie cutters to start? Feel free to PM if you have something laying around! |

Welcome to Canada! Lots of P-car folks in the GTA.

Great pickup and welcome to Toronto! I have a similar black targa also in Toronto. I had euro H4s on mine but last year went back to the original lights. My car is in hibernation right now but there are lots of runs in the warmer months.
Look forward to seeing your targa! Richard |
Thanks guys for the warm welcome!
I guess most nice cars are hibernating now, so much salt everywhere! Richard, would love to see your targa. And please drop me a PM if you're willing to sell the euro H4s |
Welcome to the forum.
Nice looking Targa. Have fun with it! |
Välkommen Mike.
I’m a Swedish ex-pat......many, many years ago. Johan |
Welcome.
|
Thanks, tack and merci!
I threw an eye at your car thread Johan, that is one fantastic looking car! Would love to see it in the flesh at some point. When do you guys take your cars out of hibernation? Salty roads until when? |
Welcome, Mikael!
Salt..... argh. You're lucky you've settled in a warm part of the country (relatively). At least there some hope to get the car out in mid March if conditions are right? I'm in Ontario too but 1,600km away and doubt that I'll see my cars until April. You will soon learn that having a warm garage and a project to work on are a great way to cure cabin fever in the long winter months. |
Welcome aboard!
|
Thanks guys, I feel right at home here!
Jonny, being from Sweden I'm no stranger to dark and cold... and the importance of a garage! Finding one in Toronto seems challenging though. I'm all ears if anyone has any leads! |
Welcome Mikael! I don't get out for many cruises or PCA social events but I do lots of track events. If you decide to join PCA Drivers education events, be sure to say hello, I go to most events!
Chris, car #965 |
Thanks puddy! I doubt that I will do much track driving with this car, but I would love to come and walk around and enjoy the atmosphere and the cars on one of your track days! Is there a schedule somewhere?
|
Hi, Mikael Welcome to TO\
Just heard about this on the radio yesterday. "Coming soon to TO" https://jalopnik.com/this-airbnb-for-diy-garage-space-lets-you-wrench-in-ran-1822537066 https://www.bookgaragetime.com/ |
Hi Mikael the PCA DE schedule is here - Driver Education | PCA UCR
|
Thanks Tom, that's an interesting idea for certain specific jobs. But I'm looking for a more permanent place to work on the car, so that I can leave it there and come back a week later if schedule so dictates.
Puddy, thanks for the link, that sure looks tempting! I hadn't planned on using this car on track, but maybe a few gentle outings would be ok... I'll come and watch at some point, then we'll see. |
Welcome! Car looks great.
|
Thanks Paul!
The car in your signature looks interesting, any pics or build thread? Quote:
