Checking the oil

I live in Holland where it is allways cold and windy :) In summer i have no problems checking the oil cause my thermostat will open up nicely. In the winter i can,t get the engine to open up the thermostat, it just doesen,t get hot enough for it to open. How to check the oil ??

if the roads are ok to drive on go for a twenty mile drive....then check the dipstick on a level surface that's the best i guess you can do .....but you must see an oil level reading on the gauge after a twenty mile run so use that as a visual backup if you are unsure...ideally should read from a half to three quarter full

tnx bones :) that is what i do now. I can drive her for an hour on 4000 rpms it just doesen,t get hot enough to use the front cooler. Guess we have to wait for summer to get things a little warmer :D

take a trip to the Ring...run a couple hard laps, then check the oil. That's going to be what I tell the wife I must do since it's so cold here lately...sounds fun to me!

can you feel any heat on the front cooler at all?

Dutchie 01-13-2003 11:31 PM

some laps on the ring :D be sure to take the taxi the first time there K9handler it,s a very hard track to drive ;) Oil lines get warm only not hot.

K9handler i am looking to get the same frontspoiler as you want ! did u allready found a place in germany that carries them ? http://www.albertweb.de/

they have them but i,m still looking for someone who has them cheaper, will let you know if i find something :)

k9handler 01-19-2003 02:30 PM

wow....1000 for the frontspoiler!

I would probably still try a US company...could be cheaper even with shipping.

if I remember correct, when my thermostat was not open and the engine was warm...there would only be about 1" to 2" of oil on the bottom of the dipstick. I am not sure of any other way than...best would be to get up to operating temp somehow.

This weekend we had some better temperatures :) Strange thing is my car doesen,t seem to use oil at all  My friend has same type of car and his does a liter on every 2000 km,s. I drove more than 4000 km,s without filling :D

Btw next weekend i will go to look at some Ducktails here in Holland, there is one who has them for 300 Euro good price i think !

k9handler 01-20-2003 01:11 AM

cool...I have seen them new for $300 from Tweeks in the states. Let me know how the ducktail hunting goes...that is one of the first body mods I plan on.

My car does not use oil either, lucky I guess.

How about a fiberglass Carrera rs rear bumper for 250 euro,s ? It,s a bargain i think but shipping is too high for me to make it intresting :( Let me know if u want it :D

k9handler 01-23-2003 10:36 AM
