I have 2011 mini cooper hardtop. I took the car to the dealership yesterday because the indicator light was on saying a bulb was out. After a couple of tries to locate it, it seemed like maybe it was the left rear brake light. The guy at the dealership tried to remove it himself right there but couldn't, so took it to his technicians. Then he came back and said that the bulb were welded to the panel, and so I'd have to replace the whole thing, which would be $300 with parts and labor. Which seems insane for a brake light being out. Does this seem normal? Shouldn't I be able to replace a single brake light?

It is possible if the sockets were damaged. Without the part numbers I am guessing. You can save money by replacing it yourself. Give our parts specialists a call at 1-888-280-7799. They can figure out what part or repair kit you need.
