P1434 error code

Have a check engine ight and getting a P1434 error code.

Reference says this:
P1434 - DMTL Tank Leakage (Diagnostic Module Tank Leakage)
P1434 - DMTL, system fault: Abort due to current fluctuations during reference measurement

Doesn't say current is high or low. That would be a different code. Should I assume the pump is bad and change it?

In the meantime can I keep driving it?

Thanks.

What year and model MINI do you have?

mattn 03-09-2017 07:06 AM

Luccia,
Its a 2010 Coupe. I checked and tightened the gas cap, cleared the error and it has so far not reappeared. I am crossing my fingers that it won't come back but I wanted to thank you for the offer to help.
Matt

Matt - I have seen both issues - a loose gas cap or a faulty DMTL pump. To be safe check the seals on your gas tank cap as well to make sure that it isn't broken, causing a poor seal when you tighten the cap. Let's hope your issue is not a faulty DMTL pump.

Here are great descriptions of the codes you received:

P1434 MINI FC (0x2736) - Detection Module for Tank Leakage [DMTL] - Tank Leakage
P1434 MINI FC (0x3220) - DMTL, System Fault - Abort Due to Current Fluctuations during Reference Measurement

Quote:

That fault code refers to the fuel tank evaporative control system, which includes the carbon canister, plumbing for condensing fuel vapors, the purge solenoid valve, and the leak detection unit [DMTL] which pressurizes the fuel tank and evaporative system to monitor system leaks. The DMTL is mounted directly to the activated carbon canister, which is located underneath the vehicle.
Report back if your issue presents itself again.

so I'm having the same issue, but I've already changed my had cap, cleared code and eventually it came back on 08 r56 base. any idea?

Next step is to look into a faulty DMTL pump.
