Looking for source of used parts - specifically a right side mirror

Hi all,

I've been looking (forever, it seems) for a right side flag mirror from a 74-75 911. I assume that this would be the driver side mirror for RHD 911s. The mirror is approximately 170mm x 100mm and the finish is stainless steel.

Are there any sources of used 911 parts or dismantlers in your countries that I should try? Thanks!

Swan Porsche's in WA dismantles cars all the time. They may have one in stock.

Thanks Erwin. I just sent them an email inquiring about the mirror I'm seeking.

Jim

They don't exist. JackOlsen has a replica made by someone, so they are available in the USA.

RHD cars had a round Durant mirror instead.

(disclaimer) So I'm told to all of the above!

Hi Cam. I thought that applied to 73 and earlier models. I've seen them in the PET listing for 74 and 75 models. Does your 75 have a Durant mirror?
The replicas haven't been available for a number of months, and it's not clear if or when they'll be available. I guess I'll keep looking into this for now. Thanks!

Does your 75 have a Durant mirror?

Not when I bought it, although I have now bought one. It has some dodgy Vitaloni mirrors to try and make it look newer

Does PET really show a right side rectangular mirror? I don't have an awful lot of evidence that it should be the Durant - basically, I have checked the "Authenticity" books and have come across a couple of pictures of RHD '74 models with a Durant mirror (one in that Authenticity book, one on the Porsche website ages ago).

But I actually don't KNOW.

Maybe you could check with Matt Holcomb - he has a '74 911 (although I see from the pics that it has '76-on mirrors) but also because he just did the RSR Services website (www.rsrservices.com.au), and RSR Services has a '74 911 for sale with an ambiguous drivers side mirror (you can't see it in the pics).

Thanks CamB. I'll try to get a clearer picture of this mirror mystery. :)

I thought in 1972 it went from a durant mirror to a rectangular mirror.

Thats what it says in the books anyway.

Yes, in 72 the 911's came with small rectangular mirrors. In 74, the mirrors continued to be the same style, but now a bit larger. Also, from what I understand, the RHD 911's in 72-73 came with the round mirror, which was the optional passenger side mirror for LHD cars. From looking at the Porsche PET parts listing for 74-75, it appears that both driver side and passenger side mirrors (optional equip.) were rectangular; however, CamB's comments leave me a bit uncertain on this.

Regards,
