hey v8 ranch,

i would recommend you start on the gold coast and work your way up the queensland coastline, the weather in queensland is pretty good all year round (much warmer than melbourne anyway) and there are lots of things to see including the late steven Irwin's zoo (rip) Australia Zoo, the theme parks, Movie World, Sea World, Dream World, Wet and Wild World, all great for the kids. You also have the sunshine coast (Noosa, Mooloolaba) I was in port douglas last year and noticed a lot of americans holidaying. A drive from gold coast to port douglas is approx. 2000km and plenty to see. There are alot of great inland drives in QLD also, you dont have to stick to the coast

As for an airport, you'll probably have to fly into Sydney, then catch a domestic flight to Gold Coast (Coolangatta airport).

If this doesnt sound like you, Melbourne is also a great city to see, just try and make it between november and april so you get good weather.

Good Luck with your decision

try this website also

The time of year is up to you if you can try to avoid our school holiday periods as everything is usually more expensive. When hiring a vehicle make sure that you can drop it off at a point other than where you picked it up ( you may arrive in Brisbane and want to leave from Sydney).

You could fly from sydney to Cairns. Then hire whatever & cruize down the coast at your leisure.
Make sure you see the Great Barrier Reef! If you don't, you will regret it.
You wouldn't go to Egypt without checking out the pyramids?
Don't listen to the Sydney/Melbourne/ Adelaide crowd, they are just trying to repopulate after everyone moved to Qld!

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter where in this vast country you go, you will love it.

Oh, i almost forgot, there is a small exam involved in obtaining citizenship. But don't worry, the locals cant pass it either.

my spanish is rusty but "vaijes baratos" is cheap trips/tours

tours in australia can be cheap by world standards especially if you are coming from europe and choose your tours and accomodation carefully

you will be able to find something to suit your budget whether it be a $20 a night backpackers hostel or a $1000 a night resort

try www.australia.com

adios,

JV

WOW, you guys have really done a great job selling this wonderful country of ours, makes a bloke want to say bugger the renos, pack a kit, grab the Mrs, chuck them in the car and go for a really really long drive to see it.

Where ever you go Shane, I hope you and your family enjoy the place and the Aussie hospitality.
