Eastern Creek

SO who else is going to the last round for PCNSW super sprints at Eastern Creek on Sat 4th October?

With luck ZAG's might have painted the new rear IROC wing for me before the day. Should be a little lighter than the current tea-tray spoiler on a metal lid.

Tim

Hey Tim,

Unfortunately I won't be running next weekend, but may go to the TrackCorp day on Wednesday instead, so it will be a quick visit to Carlos on Tuesday for a once over.

Any new photos of your car in full IROC guise yet?

Good luck next week.

So how did Eastern Creek go? Carlos said you were going.

New target lap time for Nathan and I?

Eastern Creek was great - it's the first time I've driven there in a well setup car with race rubber & proper brakes, certainly not as scary as last year on road tyres, sloppy worn out suspension and bad brakes.

As for lap times, there was no timing and I don't have a lap timer as yet (Nathan, from memory you have a MyChronLite, where did you find it?). But did manage to hit over 200 down the straight, but still can't go through there without a long tap on the brakes. I did find turn 10 hairpin hard, as need a 2.5 gear. In 2nd need to change up too quick & in 3rd revs are too low & its sluggish until @ 3500rpm.

It was a great day with some good instructors (when you could get one) and we did get a lot of tracktime (about 250 km worth) - and a lot of Porsches - 944, 928, 968 and 911 - including GT3's several GT2's and abrand new GT3 Cup Special (?) only 1 of about 15 worldwide - (wow what a machine), you may have seen it at the Concourse in PR Tech signwriting.

It's amazing how much great knowledge the instructors have of the track, guess it's just down to loads of laps. Matthew Hunt drove my car for a few laps & it really helped me with my lines.

The TrackCorp experience left a little to be desired, especially after lunch - we were expecting Jim Richards to be the special guest, but he didn't show & no explanation given. As well as little communication from the staff during the day, I would have expected the TrackCorp Team to be wandering through the pits, talking to all the drivers while we waited for the next session. For $485, I think I'll stick to private practice days. Two days at that price pays for the Cams PC licence.

Good luck on saturday fellas, sorry I won't be there. It would be good to hunt around with a few similar cars - I'm sick of being passed by Boxsters!

unfort I can't be there this weekend it's a bumber cause I love EC.

Marty, I bought my MyChron light from PR Tech, it comes with the beacon for pitwall, plus the incar sensor and display etc etc.. it works with many other brands beacons as well, so even on a private track day, I can leave my beacon at home, and calibrate to some1 else's beacon. As for the supersprtins, theres usually about 4 or 5 compatible beacons sitting on the pitwall, so there's no problem, I use the beacon that PR Technology bring to the supersprints. It cost me about $400 installed and mounted in my car.

Since I improved my PB at the last Oran Park day by over 1.5 seconds...I would be expecting to atleast better my EC time by 2 seconds. The last time I had my SC around there I did a 2:00 min flat . In my dad's 73 RS I was a 1:55 and in the GT3 I was a 1:49.9 (But I was being a bit cautious).

Good luck out there on Saturday Tim! I am jelous, I really Miss EC and have only been out there once this year!!

ggrrrr, all this talk is making me really f**king wish I was going out there this weekend!!!!!

2:03 was my best there last year - new tyres, better suspension and the engine running properly this year have resulted in a 4.5sec improvement at Wakefield and 5 secs at Oran Park GP circuit - so expecting at least 6 secs at EC. Given that you and I were close at OPGP last time, that would match close to your expected 1.5sec.

Looking forward to it - ZAG rang and the wing is ready - going on Friday morning.

Well - it was a wet one for most of the day with only the last two runs on a drying track.

As a result times were a lot slower - around the 2:20 mark BUT I also discovered having new tyres and not too much power was a definite advantage - I was last 11 fastest on the day until the last two runs. I ended up running in group two with 997's and 996's etc., and on a wet rack was catching them!!!

Then the track dried and it all went back to normal.

My best time of the day was 2:00.37 which was still almost 3 seconds faster then my previous best, and on a track still slippery in parts - so I'm happy.

Here are some shots of the car with the new wing and graphics.

Car looks great Tim all you need now is a rollcage.
Well done on the ever improving lap times - especially on a wet track.
When's your next track outing?

Thanks - I'm really happy with the way it's looking.

Next track day now not till next year - that was the last round for PCNSW.

Thinking I might give the Regularity run a go like you did - but since my car is a '83 model I'm a little too new for that unless they treat it as a 74RS3.0 (bodywork) or common with earlier SC's which are eligible.

It was great fun in the wet - you would have loved it. Our old cars really seem to handle it better.

Of the D group I was 7 seconds faster than the next best after round 1, 5 seconds after round 2 - then it dried and the Boxters took over.

What really was interesting was in round 1 I was only .07sec slower than Tom McGann in his GT3 and 14 seconds faster than Nick Prieston - both guys I look up to.

Hah, I never knew this section existed in here. I was at all 3 days. The trackday, the Jellins one and the club day. Wow how slippery was it in the wet but the times really tumbled throughout the day. I went from no grip front or rear 2.35min to being really badly baulked on my last 2 laps by a Silver 996 and then a 996tt and lost 2-4 seconds. Did a 1.51 which wasn't bad but I really wanted to go into the high 1.4?'s. Next time. Still we were hitting 235kmh down the straight and that's with virtually stock 2.5L motor while the one in my sig. is being rebuilt. Can't wait until next year.
Oh and Nick P had about as much grip as me early on...NONE lol
Very nice pic of your car. Looking great Tim.

Does anyone know who was taking photo's that day? I'd love to get some of mine but looks like the normal club guy wasn't there this time.

Jason Kirk told me that his mate was taking the shots that day. I'd email Jason from his contact on the motorsportfotos site and see how you can get them.
