Happy New Year & lots of pics of my new SC!
Happy New Year to all! I trust 2009 will be both peaceful and prosperous.
On my introductory post a month or so ago I mentioned that I was looking to buy a nice SC or 3.2 Carrera. Well, just before Christmas I took the plunge and fulfilled a lifelong ambition by purchasing a 1983 SC. I spent a few days over Christmas cleaning it up before putting photos up for all to see. It's an Australian delivered car, with three previous owners and a genuine 85,000kms. It's absolutely 100% original and unmolested (except for the tail); it hasn't even had the Carrera chain tensioner upgrade, and the air pump is still connected and is operational. It has the full leather interior, which I am lead to believe is a reasonably rare option on the SC's. The PPI was 100% positive, with no rust or accident damage; although I am going to do the brakes, tyres and chain tensioner upgrade in the next week or so. In line with standard Forum practice, I've included a heap of (somewhat self-indulgent) photos. Some of the shots were taken at the Mount Panorama race track which should be familiar to anyone with an interest in motor racing. These shots have been massaged in Photoshop in an attempt to disguise the shortcomings of my camera, especially when taking photos of a white car in full sunlight. Enjoy... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'll add a few more photos in a separate post to follow... |

Great Pictures Tony,
i cant get over the interior in your car, its so perfect. the previous owner did a great job keeping it in fantastic condition for you. i like the cookie cutters. i love seeing these older porsches with the original yellow chromate still intact. Sean |

Thanks Sean,
I'm actually surprised how good the Cookie Cutters look for a change. Although I don't think I'll be able to resist the lure of the Fuchs for ever. Best wishes for the New Year to both yourself and Bruce; I'll see you in a week or so. |

Tony,
great buy, these original cars really are a good buy (my opinion only) and white is such a great colour. Remember.... your only as old as the woman you feel, or is that the 911 you drive. Have a great New year to you and everyone else. regards Glenn |

I trust the lap of the Mount was at legal speeds! It's worth waiting to find a good one, looks like a great buy - well done.

Well done - great looking car (mine is an 83 as well).
And the upgrades you mention are sensible ones to keep it going for many more miles. Keep in contact thru this board - you will find good friends and plenty of advise. Tim

great car, nice shots!!
I must also advise to do the airbox pop-off asap. My airbox didn't have one and only about 3 months after purchasing the car, on cold startup, the airbox blew up....they aren't cheap to replace either. I now have the valve, it's well worth the small price for the valve to save your airbox

Thanks for all the helpful hints and positive comments!
I reckon I'm very lucky to have found such a good, original car with low kilometers. I wasn't a fan of the tan interior at first, but it's growing on me now. I'm also fortunate that the PO was moving OS for work and was an EXTREMELY motivated seller! I'm not sure if the air box issue was considered in the PPI, but it will be included with the tensioner upgrade if it hasn't been done already. We're heading down to Thredbo the weekend after next for the annual Blues Festival. It will be the first decent drive the SC has had for many years. I'm really looking forward to taking a spirited run around the Alpine Way. We may even take a run up to Charlotte Pass for a Sunday morning espresso! So long as I can remember to tear myself away from the wheel, I'll take some scenic happy snaps along the way and will post them up when I return. Kind regards... Tony |
