no garage for a few years

am renting a new place without a garage and am looking at options for the 911. There is a driveway up the side so I thought a portable garage like this might be ok for a few years Carport Enclosure Kit - 4 pieces, PE Tarp Material - Supercheap Auto

or I could spend 2k and get a shed UTILITY SHED 3m WIDE x 4.5m DEEP ABSCO

and perhaps a good car cover as well. Anyone recommend a good car cover?

anyone use any of the above?

If you aren't to close to the water a good car cover should be ok if you keep the wax up to it every 3 months

I got a Stormproof car cover from our host that arrived last week. It's well worth the money and with the aussie dollar almost even with the $US very competitive. I've only got a carport and with the black car cover you don't even notice the car and at night it's almost invisible! We have been thinking of building the carport in for more security but at the moment the cover is perfect.

I lived through this period a few years ago

Watch out for wind with covers... inevitably a little dust finds its way under the cover and a solid couple of days in a howling gale creates quite a bit of friction... Consider throwing an old heavy polyester doona over the car before the cover and use the the straps on the cover to get it nice and tight.

Always uncover and air the car our at least once a fortnight - you don't want humidity to build up around the car. If you're not using the car for a few weeks, put one of those humidity crystal buckets inside the car (get them at Bunnings - they attract moisture and capture it in a tub).

Any form of temporary roof such as those from Supacheap etc... can only help.

These are all good and valid points, but there is one that no one has mentioned. Security.

Is the location of the proposed parking area visible from the road or any passers by? If not, it is not as much of a worry but if yes, then any of the above solutions will only attract the attention of those who may not have the best intenions and well no one wants that.

Do you have a friend or relo with a spare garage space. or is there an elderly person who lives nearby who will rent you an unused garage space?

In my opinion, the best option is one that attracts as little attention as possible but if you have to choose one of the above, I'd go with the metal shed as it would give the best protection for the car against the elements and you may be able to address some of the security by installing a simple burglar alarm on the entry doors.

What a coincidence, I just moved house to get a house WITH a garage for my 911...!

I had mine in a carport at the old house, with a cover on it too, but man I hated it. Very hard to work on because the slab / ground was at an angle, and it was always on display to the neighbourhood.

I agree with Alan, if you can find someone with a garage space you can rent it would be safer, but if you need to access it often then I guess a temporary garage / shed would be best.

I hope you sort out a decent solution!

I used this back in the uk.
Fix/bolt one end to the floor & along the sides to the pivot
& at least 2-4 clips with eye bolts along the front

Very heavy & come in all sizes.
I'll try find the info on it.

I'm going through the same issue Greg while I'm building, probably for another year. I couldn't stand the thought of the car outside so I put it in storage, sucks!
