Starter Solenoid...rebuild? Replace?

Hey guys,

Last week I had a one off occurrence of what I think is a problem with my starter solenoid. Turning the key, all I heard was a fairly loud hum, engine wouldn't turn over at all. Came back to troubleshoot it a few days later and it started up fine, problem hasn't reoccurred since.

Doing a bit of research, I'm not sure whether it's better to rebuild the Bosch unit our buy a new hi torque unit.

Any local experience with rebuilders? Thoughts?

Cheers
Al

Had the same problem a few years back. Used to need to get under the car and tap the starter with a wooden mallet. Don't ask - it was what I was told to do and it worked!

Carlos Cavaco arranged for a rebuild of the starter motor and it's been working fine since then.
