On the Road Again
 

Just a 3 day vacationlet to Michigan, but damn does this bring back memories of work. I forgot rule one and did not leave the bathroom light on and the door open about an inch. I woke up to pee in the middle of the night and had no idea where I was or where it was safe to let fly. I did finally stumble around and find the bathroom to relieve myself.
I heard dogs barking and had a nightmare later that we had brought our dogs with us and they were in an adjacent room. I heard a dog (Maddison?) barking and got up, went into the hall wearing only a tee shirt to check on them. I was bare ass nekkid in the hall when it finally dawned on me that we didn’t bring our dogs and we didn’t have a room for them. All the racket was coming from the dog in the room across the hall.
I’ve spent a lot of nights in a lot of hotels, and I’ve got a lot of stories. They just keep on coming.

I'd cut back on the Ambien.

Lol. That would help, if I was using it. It was definitely an Ambien-like experience, but I had no sleep aids on board.

I've got lots of stories from working overnights at a hotel through college. Suffice it to say, I do not stay at them if I don't have to. People be nasty. Very nasty. Especially when they don't have to clean up after themselves.

My favorite are the hotels with the full length mirrors directly across from the bathroom. I have walked into one of those more than once trying to find the bathroom at night. I swear they do it on purpose....

They put those mirrors there to scare the daylights out of you. There's always some pasty ugly old fat guy was standing there naked who keeps getting pastier, uglier, older and fatter.

It's like a nightmare.

Ha! We had a pizza delivered to the room last night. They brought no plates or napkins so we had to use the hotel towels. There is pizza sauce everywhere! Looks like someone butchered a hog in here.

I have a friend who's a senior SW air captain. He was on a trip and had to hotel it for a night in the Seattle area at a nice hotel. He's always had a fear he'd lock himself out of his room nekkid. Well he actually did it a few months ago. Got up in the middle of the night, went outside of his room with nothing on either sleep walking or so tired he didn't remember where he was. Was calling for his wife when he woke up in the hall locked out. As he woke up he realized she was not there and what he had done. The process of getting to a phone and getting help was painful to listen to but hilarious.

I did that once with just underwear on taking a room service tray outside.....

I'm guilty of getting very, very, very under the influence at hotels... but I never set foot outside the room nekkid. :D

I have however passed out in the hallway in from of my room (Vegas).

And woke in my room in the middle of the night wondering where the heck am I several times.

Fortunately I no longer need to travel for work.

Friend of mine was a pilot for American. Retired now. Told me of being in a Boston Hotel room, changing into his uniform for his flight to L.A., when the phone rang telling him his flight was cancelled. It was 9-11-01. Just the luck of the draw...

It sounds like you have a fairly serious sleep disorder. Either that or a drinking problem. I hate motels but have never experienced anything similar to what you describe.

spent many years on the road in various hotels in many time zones. More than once I woke exactly the same way, disoriented, not able to find the bathroom, stumbling around seeing things. And no speeder, not sleep disorder per se just unfamiliar surroundings. There were a couple of weeks where it was a different hotel every night, Monday through Thursday. All the same, but all different

There were several close calls with the go out the door to the hall without the key. Never really did it, but got close

Yep. Leave a hotel, drive a few hours, work a few hours, drive some more, fall into bed. You wake up and you know you aren’t home, but you don’t know the layout of the room because you barely looked at it before going to bed.
I do have sleep apnea and sleep with a CPAP mask on. I’m so used to it I can take it off, go to the bathroom, and come back and put back on without fully waking up.

I've never had a problem waking up in a hotel and not knowing where I am, but a few years ago, when I was traveling quite a bit, I would be at the airport terminal waiting to take off and I would look up from my book or magazine and it would sometimes take me long moments to remember what city I was in. Very disorienting.
(Except when I was in Vegas. I never had that problem there.)

When traveling, my wife packs one of those LED nightlights for the sole purpose of plugging into a bathroom outlet exactly for this purpose.

Had room service once and I went to put the tray out in the hall and the door latched behind me while in my tighty whities..... no good, fortunately it was in Barbados and no one seemed to care when I arrived at the front desk, at 2AM.

Nah, if he was on Ambien he would have dropped a deuce in front of the door of the room with the barking dogs and then wondered who did it in the morning. That crap has some bizarre side effects.

I was walking back to my room once fairly late in the evening and saw a old dude that made me look like a male model for a gym in comparison to him. He was completely naked and just strolling down the hall like he was fully dressed. He stopped to ask if I could call the front desk and tell them he got locked out of his room. I always add the hotel name and phone number to my phone when I travel. So I called them and of course some chick answered and said she would be right up. I told him I was not going to stand around in a hall with a naked man and I went to my room.

I did not get the luck to come across some hot chick, just an old dude that required me to find eye bleach in my room. :eek:

I never wake up disoriented. And I have never even come close to getting locked out of my room dressed, much less naked.
