Yet another needless shooting
How many more innocent lives will be tragically ruined due to another shooting by a law abiding citizen legally owning and using a gun to protect their family?

I'm glad the loaded gun in the glove box thing worked out for her, it typically doesn't.

The first word in the link tells all. TEXAS mom.
Give her a medal. She can be so happy she did not live in so many gun unfriendly states, she would be in jail right now. The recent case in Oklahoma City where an armed bad guy started shooting and wounded a mom and daughter and random had a happy ending. Two men that did not know each other or anything except a bad man with a gun was going to kill innocent people went back to different cars, and they got their guns and killed the bad guy. The DA has looked at the evidence, and announce no charges at all. Case closed. |
Kach, do you really think two examples you dredge up make it "typical" that a gun in a glove box doesn't work out well?
Pause and think for a second....how many cars in the USA have a gun on board somewhere? I would be willing to be there are enough to render your two examples statistically irrelevant. I would be willing to be there are enough to render a thousand such examples statistically irrelevant. I am not saying you should carry a gun in a car that regularly has kids in it, to me that is a straight up dumb idea. Do you post this crap in the hopes some are as superficial as you in perusing news stories? Looking only on the surface to see if it jives with their inherent bias well enough to propagate to other gullible idiots? |
Looks like they need to outlaw lions in Africa , I love that the poachers became supper :D

I'm also pro gun but not sure about guns in cars... sometimes road rage+gun=very bad outcome.
And road rage isn't always about some a-hole, never know if someone just jumped in the car after a big hairy argument with their wife or boss. |

I own guns, I am not anti-gun, I am anti-stupid. If someone actually has a "selfish desire to protect their family" then they will keep their firearm on their person or restrict access to children, and possibly lock them up unloaded when not in use. |

I don't own any guns but I probably will some day.
Regarding the keeping of the gun in the glovebox...Do hand gun have safetys that are child proof? And, in this particular case, both kids were in the back seat, both were young enough that that were probably in car seats. I'm assuming it would be difficult for the kids to gain access to the gun in the glove box. Regardless, the person responsible was the guy that attempted to carjack the car that had small children in it and he learned the hard way - good job mom! |
Bad Karma
Sound to me that the would be carjacker got (most) of what he deserved. He's just lucky that she didn't keep pulling the trigger until it went click, click, click! Some people are simply a waste of skin and air! If it happened to me, I would not be as nice as she was!

Although no one was shot, here's another SHOCKING example of how TERRIBLE it is that a citizen used a GUN  to ensure the safety of themselves and their co-workers.
What kind of world do we live in where violent criminals can't go around committing crimes without worrying about their safety. Think of these poor criminals! Stressed out like this. They need to be able to commit their criminal activities in a safe environment. Watch: Pistol-packing waitress defends George Webb co-worker during attack | Fox News |

Which brings up an important aspect to using a gun for self-defense. You need to have the stones to calmly smoke someone. If that guy had kept advancing, would she have squeezed the trigger quickly enough? With good aim, before he could overpower her? Anyone who has watched real videos of encounters w guns knows that these things can go sideways for the good guys, (or women), very quickly. I'm all for people being able to defend themselves w a gun from criminals who would assault/murder/rape them but it's all about getting the drop and firing quickly and accurately. That is why the glove compartment loaded piece is so problematic; if you are surprised at a gas station by some bad guy in your face, will you be able to retrieve it and shoot fast enough? And what are the risks of an accidental shooting by a child or other innocent, not to mention it being stolen in a car burglary by a really bad scumbag? These are real concerns and issues. I love a good story of a violent criminal getting smoked as much as the next guy but the idea that everyone carrying will always work out right is BS as well. |
If the gun is a semi-automatic, the easiest way to prevent a small child from accidentally firing the weapon is to have a loaded magazine but an empty chamber. Generally speaking, most children under the age of about 10 or 12 don't have the hand strength to work the slide. Or, one step further, put the magazine in your pocket. Best yet, teach the child to keep his/her hands off the weapon! My father tought me to shoot a rifle when I was about 5-6 years old. Before I was allowed to shoot, I had to recite all the firearm safety rules. Since then, I have managed to go over 60 years without shooting anyone!

Do you read and understand English Katch? Is this a second language issue, or are you seriously as obtuse as you appear to be?
Most guns are not used on family members, most are not used at on people, that is just a straight up idiotic statement. Quote:

Then you have this, this, whatever you would call it from someone who reads too many Janet Evanovitch novels.
