I'm safe now

How many years has it been? FINALLY...as of yesterday, the airbag replacement on my '09 Mustang is complete. Drivers side was done a couple of years ago, passenger side yesterday. So...for 9 years I was flirting with death.

Now...to go to a cars and coffee.

So it took 9 years to fix an airbag?

Glad your passengers are now safe.

Good thing you're not on flat rate.......

I'm not totally sure of the entire timeline. Think it took several years after I bought the car before the Takana (sp?) air bag scandal broke. Ford wasn't the only car maker with the problem. Still...yeah, it took quite a spell.

I did get an oil/filter change, had the tires rotated. Total Tab? $26.00. I supplied the 6 qts. of Mobil 1..almost forgot that. The motocraft "synthetic blend" would probably work fine, but I've been a Mobil 1 fan for a long time..

LOL on the flat rate...but the burning question remains...What's the record for spectator injuries at a cars & coffee?

I remember a mountain bike race"back in the day." It was an 18 hour mtb race (which afterwards a friend correctly mentioned- "there is NOTHING I would like to do for 18 hours.") At the end of the event, tired and dying on the vine, I sat in my trusty 951, and suddenly a hissing sound and smoke emanated from the steering column. - for a prolonged 30 seconds or so.

The sensation at the time was not of a firecracker, but of 100 ladyfingers doing their best to fumigate me out.

At the time, the 87 car- ... well this happenend circa 2005. you do the math. It wasn't new.

As I was tired from the ride, I couldn't entirely comprehend the concept, other than- "my airbag just blew it's wad"

It did not blow up in my face. At the time, (and still), I was happy it didn't kill me, and as a bonus, it didn't even, blow the seal on the steering wheel horn section.

The car filled with smoke, and as tired as I was from the ride, instead of getting out and grabbing a fire extinguisher or something, I opened the sunroof and window, and fell right to sleep.

I drove the car valiantly until it burst into flames years later.

I got this cringey postcard in the mail a couple of days ago. I didn't call the number, but I'm sure it connects to the ambulance chasing firm of Dewey, Cheatham and Howe.

Maybe we should get a little serious here...to see if you have a car with the bad airbags, click here. Any dealership should make a replacement at no charge to you.

I think only a small portion of the airbags were even dangerous.
There was something about the bag chemicals breaking down into a fast reacting mixture with heat.
So only cars left baking outside in hot southern climates were vulnerable for the most part.
(i think)

Ive had to pull takata air bags out and re install for other repairs before. I hate it , I freaking pucker up. No real way of me knowing if they are the faulty ones or not .
Our older 3 series wagon was an affected vehicle. The did the drivers side bag, quick, but took a long time before they got the passenger bags in stock and replaced . I never let the kids sit up front .

It’s a mustang. You were always safer than the crowd watching you leave the car show. ;) :p

Not it. For some reason a flaw in the design. Meaning when set off in a collision, they could and did sent metal fragments into the faces of passengers. Never heard of the heat angle. But that could be possible. Anyway, the replacements supposedly eliminate the metal fragments possibility. I have no urge to find out...

Yeah Sid, I haven't a clue how I've avoided crashing over the past 9 years...weird, but I've found my Mustang to be a pretty well balanced driver. Definitely a no status and no thrill ride. Pretty much what I expected when I bought it. But then, I don't do car things now.

BMW finally replaced the airbag on the driver's side. Still waiting on the passenger side.
