Old Music Video question

Trying to remember a music video and artist from the early nineteen eighties. Thought it may have been one from Don Felder from the Eagles or someone similar but can't find it. Think the guy was in a group at the time and was going solo. May have been 1983 or 1984. (It's not Bad Girls by Felder by the way.)

Action takes place at an amusement park at night to early morning (Think county fair type rides). May have been set in England but made to look like America. Singer plays a guitar as he walks around waiting for someone. Never seen another guitar like it. Seemed to be cross between a strat and squire and was kind of a milky gold color. The repeating riff he played on the guitar was twangy. At the end I think he gets in a convertible at the fair and they drive away.

Just throwing it out there to see if anyone else remembers it. Think it was popular for a short time period and was on all the top video countdown shows. Remember parts of it but not enough.

Guesses would be appreciated... :D

Stray Cats, maybe?

Good guess but I think it was by a solo artist and not a group.

^^
Sounds like something Setzer would do though.

Maybe this will jump start the ideas?

Not Neil Young...

Been going through one of those Internet music video archive sites year by year. This is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Obscure video that was memorable but apparently not that popular enough to be archived somewhere.

Thanks for the guesses so far.

INXS? Can't remember the song....seems like Michael Hutchence walked through some kind of Fair or Festival like that.

Think that may have been for the song Original Sin.

Could it have been this? Doesn't fit your description exactly though...

Definitely too new.

I very distinctly remember the video - can't recall the artist right now though!

Not a fair, but the mind sometimes plays tricks on us as we try to recall things. Former Foreigner front man...but again takes place later than the time frame you provided:

Going through the list that LeeH posted, and there are a hella lot of videos set at fairs or carnivals and it was none of those.

Don't think this artist was well established like Springsteen. For some reason the first name of Dave is standing out as a possible choice. (almost feel like a psychic. Is there anyone one here with a relative with the first name starting with D that has passed?)

Looked up a few guitars on-line and think I have narrowed the guitar down to a Rickenbacker and not a Gretsch. The style and placement of the cavity cover on the Rickenbacker seems to match what I remember the guy playing. Kind of like Pat DiNizio's guitar from the video for the song a girl like you

What genre best describes it? Rock? Pop? Punk? Alternative (MTV 120 minutes)? Country? Bueller? Bueller?

Describe the singer, the park if you can.

Don't know if you remember the show but think it was in heavy rotation on Friday Night Videos (NBC) at the time (call in voting show.) If I had to pin it down, the guitar riff was definitely rock-a-billy twang.

The amount of information on the Internet is staggering, but there just doesn't seem to be too much on music videos and artists from the early 80s. Just snippets here and there and blog entries. Makes this search kind of hard.

craigster59 08-07-2018 08:31 AM

If it's Rockabilly and Dave is the guys name, try Dave Edmunds or Dave Alvin.
