A first for me today.

I usually turn the thermostat up to 78 each morning when I leave for work. I work outside.

When I come home - 78 of course feels like heaven.

Well today when I got home and walked in the door....it was TOO COLD so I clicked it up to 79 so I wouldn't catch a cold. That's how FREAKING hot and humid it was outside.

Yeah, but you have hurricanes and cockroaches.

Same here, I sat in the un-airconditioned house and watched the Watkins Glenn race on Sunday, while doing laundry upstairs, and dishes on the commercial breaks. I think it reached 85 in the house. I was in, and out the pool a couple times with the outside air temps in the mid 90s. My wife stays out in the airconditioned 30' camper in the back yard.

My favorite time of the year is Sep, Oct, Nov, but after Christmas, I just hibernate until March.

I was born and raised in Upstate NY and you would think I'd hate the heat but quite the opposite . I hate the cold ! We moved to FL. over 26 years ago I spent plenty of time outside , at one point I was welding metal fender flares on my 914 in the afternoon heat it just doesn't bother me . Moved to GA. 8 years ago and at the age of 60 I'm still heat tolerant . For the past 6 months I've been balls to the wall on the man cave doing 8 - 10 hours stints with MANY days being in the mid to high 90's with stiffeling humidity . Yes I am wiped out after a full day but quickly recover after a shower and some AC .

But when it gets to 30 in GA. I stay inside :D I just don't like it that's why I'm installing heat in the man cave . Now don't get me wrong I don't enjoy sweating like a pig but I can get the work done that is needed , that's why AC is also going into the man cave ;) . Will I be different in 5 years or 10 when it comes to heat/humidity ? Probably but I'm hoping by then all my heavy lifting work outside is done and all I have to deal with is lawn maintenance . Any car/garage work will be done in the cool confines of the AC man cave .

When I had my dealership the shop was heated and cooled. I cannot overstate how awesome that is for summer and winter wrenching.

There is a difference between losing ones senses, and being in different physical form.

The former is what you allude to, from losing taste, to not being able to tell temperature.

The latter is what I referred to, is the body working differently as opposed to it being hotter.

I would imagine productivity would be better in a shop that has HVAC vs. one that does not.


I never understood how any shop in Florida does not have AC in it.

My last house was a six garage home.

3 attached and 3 detached. The 3 detached was my place. It had AC and heat, air compressor, the works. It was wonderful to work in.

I miss it.

speaking for myself I no longer perspire as originally designed so heat is a real problem for me. I often use a wet T shirt ( keep it to yourselves fellas, I don't look so very good in one) to cool myself off but high humidity limits evaporation and hence cooling. So I'll be taking Seahawks advice and hanging out in the AC!

I don't just perspire, I squirt. When it is hot I sweat like a race horse at the Preakness. Two weeks ago I "got" to go flying on a project. The air temp on the ramp was 105. Nothing like standing on the tarmac hooking up the camera system and computers then climbing into the nice big greenhouse of a Cessna 172. Turning on that big powered fan on the front of the airplane blows hot air, but it feels good. We got to altitude and it cooled way down, to 88 degrees and that felt nice!

Today will be better. The high is forecast to be mid 80s. It will be in the 60s at flight altitude. That will be great.

i saw the funniest pic here on PPOT about HEAT once.

i think it was a solar system pic. it showed Earth, the Sun..and right in between there was a small dot labeled "Louisiana". it was emphasizing how hot it was in Louisiana.

i still laugh thinking about it.

The last couple weeks have been pretty stifling here in NY/NJ/PA. I'm riding the motorcycle into NYC daily, and am pretty adamant about ATGATT. If its 90 ambient, its usually +20 degrees in the depths of the Lincoln Tunnel. I get through it OK, but my business suits are taking a beating.

I hired a guy 5 months ago when it was nice out here in Florida to help with the field work.

It was only 80° out and this cat was drenched, I told him I was afraid he was going to stroke out in the summer if he is handling this relatively cool weather like that.

Once our heat index hit over 100 he was beyond drenched, he looked like a TV joke, water was running down him like I have never seen in my life.

Probably for the better the cat did not work out, I had to let him go for other reasons. I honestly do not think he would have made it physically through the summer.

I do not really sweat a lot, I mean I sweat but not to the point my clothing is drenched. I actually do not mind the hot at all, I prefer it any day over close to freezing temps. I will gladly take a 111° heat index over 20° wind chill.

Today was a typical Florida day for me, I am glad to be back inside now sucking AC and doing paperwork.

We got back in around 2:30 today. Just in time for the HI to almost hit 110.

I will drench clothes and create puddles when the temperature is over 80F. I mean water hose top of head. It's scary how much I sweat. Embarrassing for my wife when I have to wear dress clothes cause I need Max AC to keep from metling. We have literally abandoned dinner cause the walk fro m the parking garage to resturant has soaked me to the bone. And we live in SoCal... Years ago I had a work meeting in Dalgren VA and after walking 10 minutes outside in summer heat and humidity had to go back to hotel a d call in cause I was not going to be presentable for rest of the day.
