Because they rode out Irene the year prior and THAT was supposed to be a "catastrophic and deadly" storm.

The media causes complacency with their over exaggeration of the storms, then you get people saying, "I rode out Irene, Sandy is more of the same I am staying put, Irene was nothing."

And Irene was nothing.

Sandy was not.

So ---

The media in their relentless zeal - warning and chastising the public for staying through the storm vs. evacuating........

Which is more credible:

1) "Leave or you will suffer bodily harm and/or death!"
or
2) "Leave or you will be very uncomfortable due to loss of power."

Because it seems like #2 is the more likely scenario - not #1.

And why am I the one to come to this conclusion - with all the busy-bodies in the communications field?

You need to consider the potential guilt if they played something at the lowest possibility and reality was the highest.

It is far better to ere on the side of caution when it comes to Hurricanes.

The day it lands is too late for those there to leave all together.

I guess I would rather see emphasis on how to get through if you decide to hunker down - rather than the broken record nothing burger we hear 24/7.

Zero creativity.

Shocking.....

Drama is good for ratings, and most people need something scary to rally around.

See my post above yours.

The Sandy debacle was due to over hyping Irene the year prior. People that evacuated came back to perfectly fine homes. Why leave for the next one?

Because they hyped a weak storm up.

There will be damage from this storm, but lets be real, it is a Cat 2 storm, and that should be made very clear. If this was a true Cat 4 coming ashore the damage would have been much much worse.

If they just reported facts, instead of hyping these storms up I would find them to be responsible.

What they are doing now? Irresponsible and dangerous.

Buddy in Avon , OBX texted me at midnight. He was holding up good. Still not flooded, but said the water was close . He said that Highway 12 was under. but overall, not that bad so far .
If I have to watch that lady on TWC talk about that dumb tree one more time, I'm driving there and cutting it up myself

Lol, they found the one big tree that fell and camped out next to it.

Still sounds like there will be flooding damage, but in the grand scheme of things certainly not as bad as things could have been.

car storage

There was a you tube on this site a while back where a guy kept jacking his car up as the flood rose . It was crazy - the jack under water - stacking garden blocks under the car.
After the storm there was a shot of the car about three feet in the air.

What are you guys doing - my car floats up in six inches of water - at least my previous e30 did - very scarrey - water pouring in the door - very dark - the chinese carry out made me do it.
I was lucky. best of luck to you guys too

I'm in North Raleigh, all good here, so far. We have a beach place on Topsail Island, not sure how it held up. Honestly, with all the news coverage, we just wanted the damn thing to land already!!!

Just received a text from friends riding out the storm on their boat on Radio Island, between Beaufort and Morehead city, NC. Windy but so far so good. Tide coming up now.
