A glorious thread....in hindsight :).

Since yer here...got a stock that has a bit of light greenish mold on it....wiped most off. Been wanting to rub some Tru-Oil on it....go ahead or something else/before?

Thanks David...

Captain Ahab Jr 11-23-2018 04:36 AM

Wish I'd listened more to what I body was telling me :(

drcoastline 11-23-2018 04:58 AM

Seven years? That was seven years already? Seems like last year. It's great you're still with us.

If it is an oil finish, i would wipe it down with alcohol let it dry then 0000 steel wool the top coat. Then rub some tru oil on it. Mold is hard to get rid of. You could also use a mild bleach water solution. Then proceed.

Well done David coz you listened to the forum members. I am happy you are here and in good health. I enjoy your posts particularly your old MG and newer 914 ones.
Cheers, Guy

7 years?
Wow time flies by.
Glad you had the (7 year) itch to keep livin'....

herr_oberst 11-23-2018 07:12 AM

Like the others, I'm amazed at how quickly 7 years have passed.
Life is definitely better on this side of the lawn!

crustychief 11-23-2018 07:23 AM

seems like last week. Here is to your continued health!

oldE 11-23-2018 07:47 AM

David!
The true joy would be if you learned to play something better than bass ! :D

Glad you heard the wake up call. Seven more years on the good side of the sod.
Keep the tunes coming.
(Plus I'm really glad you cleared up the confusion I had when I read someone had green on his stock.. That was awkward for a second.)
Best
Les

Yeah, I was thinking penicillin.
Time sure flies! I remember that thread. Hoping for another good 7 years for you David, and another, and another.

oldE 11-23-2018 07:56 AM

David,

In truth, it was just a year earlier I lost a local musician friend to cancer. Keeping the tunes on earth seems to be a worthwhile endeavour these days.

Best

IDK much if anything about gunstocks but they are wood, at least in Targa's world. What works for mold on wood can be several things. Boric acid, oxalyic acid and vinegar all come to mind. As usual, test on a small spot.

Bleach might work too, but it does have an effect that may not be desirable — lightening the shade of the wood.

Likewise on the survival of a stroke. Another 7 and another and another....

OMG!! Seven Years ???? I also remember it like it was yesterday. So glad you're still with us and hope you stay for many, many years to come. I think it's sort of an odd and unique thing so many people here have been around for soo long things like this seem recent.

tevake 11-23-2018 09:21 AM

Wow, time flies!
That was one of our most significant and memorable threads.
So glad we were able to give you the nudge needed to get to help quickly.

Yep your car threads in the mean time have been good. But you spoon restoration threads are my favorites.

It's good you are still with us David!

Cheers Richard

pete3799 11-23-2018 10:53 AM

Happy 7th.

masraum 11-23-2018 11:50 AM

And that one act 7 years ago makes up for PARF for the past 7 years and the next 70 years.

Super glad that you're still with us!!

Hugh R 11-23-2018 12:47 PM

What they all said!

targa911S 11-23-2018 01:12 PM

That thread is why I love this place. We may complain and get on each other once in a while but that event shows just how much heart this place has and why I keep coming back.

OK, which one of you broke the mirror?

J/k,
glad to still have you around with or without frets.

Tobra 11-23-2018 04:53 PM

Glad you are still on this side of the grass.

You still have that groovy acoustic bass?

Por_sha911 11-23-2018 05:48 PM

And fortunately, no one moves up one in line!

Oh yeah. I’m playing acoustic guitar now as well. Bought a nice Guild F 1512 and tomorrow I pick up a Gibson J 200. I figured 9 basses was enough.

Jim Richards 11-23-2018 06:38 PM

Congrats on remaining functional, David! You must have a good service plan. SmileWavy

"9 basses was enough," are you sure you are a bass player?

My aunt has a Guild, probably 35+ years old now. Lovely guitar and plays and sounds great.

peppy 11-26-2018 01:37 PM

Glad you're still around.

kach22i 11-26-2018 02:08 PM

Like others have said, it's been a quick seven years.

Any advice on how to live a longer life?

oldE 11-26-2018 02:12 PM

Don't give in to bass instincts. :D
