auto insurance question

I was rear ended in my Cayman by a 16 year old driving with his mother. It scuffed and dented my bumper. Poor kid sihted in his pants claims he hit the gas instead of the brake pedal. Jolted me pretty hard. I am not upset in anyway. Took Progressive three weeks to accept fault. Why so long, I have no clue and communication is frustrating at best. No phone call, no return text or forget email. It was like speaking to a stone. Finally got hold of someone and it was settled a week ago. Here's the question, are they suppose to get me a car that's comparable to the Cayman S? They selected a Chevy Spark. I had to look it up to see what that thing is. A matchbox at best. I reply to the email and this is that I got. What pissed me off the most is high lighted below:

Good Morning Jeff,

I’ve set up the assignment for your 09 Porsche Cayman. VALLEY COLLISION II will be looking for your arrival on Monday, May 18th. Your rental reservation is below. You should be receiving a call from Enterprise to setup either a pick up or drop off. The rental vehicle we arranged is considered a comparable replacement, as it is safe, fully operational, and equipped with standard features such as seatbelts and four wheels. The only exception applies to specialized work-related vehicles, such as work trucks. The rental authorization will not begin until the day your vehicle is dropped off at a repair facility for repairs and will end within 24 hours after the repairs are completed. While your vehicle is in repairs, The Managed Repair Rep, will follow up with you regarding your repairs and when your repairs should be completed they will also update and extend your rental as needed.

Why would you not subrogate through your own insurance? Let them fix it and they can chase restitution.

Agree, go thru your insurance and let them sub. No one is giving you a Porsche rental, but Progressive is the Taco Bell of insurance. ( I did insurance law stuff for most of my now departed work life)

Just like to know if they are suppose to get me a similar car and not an econo-box. ISn't what insurance com suppose to do, make you whole as much as possible including the rental?

IMHO ... Just accept what they've given you and live your life. You'll have your car back before you know it.

I searched for Chevy Spark! ... Not awful.

You get to choose the body shop, not the 3rd party insurance company.

You also are entitled to a comparable replacement vehicle.

Based on them being cheap on the rental, I can’t imagine what corners their shop will cut on the repair.

Deal with your insurance company now that they have taken responsibility, make sure it is perfect before you sign off on the repair.

And insist on new Porsche parts, not junk yard parts.

I agree with this, except the "comparable" part. You'll only be driving the Spark for about a week- maybe you can pay an upgrade fee if your insurance doesn't help. I'd check with them, though.

If Progressive set up Valley Collision II, it's Run Forest, Run time. Pick the best shop you can find. It's the insurance company's responsibility to use them as long as the cost is reasonable. My opinion is most any shop can work it out. I'd make sure the bumper comes off the car and replaced if justifiable. Painted bumpers usually don't match the body color, but I would think you'd want to match the color of the front bumper.

Jeff, huh?
