Another Veterans Benefit ??

Earlier this week I was driving into a small town just down the road and the speed limit goes from 65 -> 55 -> 35 in a short distance. As I enter the town I see a local black & white backed into a drive, I'm well into the 35 zone and speedo says I am doing a good 55 still. Sure enough, as I get even with him he lights up and starts pulling out of the drive. Ahchit, this is going to cost me....

I immediately pull into a parking lot, roll down the window and hand him my drivers license and Insurance ID when he walks up. All he says is "man, I kept thinking you would slow down but you didn't" shook his head and said "don't go anywhere" as he walked back to his car.

When he returned he said "I want to thank you for your service and we'll just let this go today" and told my wife to keep an eye on me . As he walked back to his car he turned and said "and by the way, your insurance card expired last week", shook his head and kept going.

Not sure but me thinks the "Veteran" printed in bold block letters on my TX drivers license had something to do with this. It certainly didn't hurt anything. As of a couple of years ago, if you present your DD214 to the DMV you are identified as a veteran on your DL. Definitely something every veteran should do.

1) Thanks for your service.
2) Occasionally, not getting a ticket does more for behavioral modification than a ticket would.

Thanks for your service. I have heard that veteran status was helpful when dealing with LE, but it has never seemed to be the case with me. Maybe I am always just to close to a base where they are sick of GIs and their antics.

There is nothing on my license, but I hinted at my military/veteran status when getting a ticket in Vegas and later in Virginia. Neither had any compassion. I did get a free stack of pancakes at IHOP on Veteran's Day though and a discount at Lowes every day. Thanks IHOP and Lowes!

Interesting. Maryland has the same program which I did not have a clue about.

Thanks for whatever you did, honorably, in service to this great country.

Best.

LOL! Thanks to all who serve and have served....

Having a legit badge would probably be best...or retired cop ID?
