I'm struggling to make any sense whatsoever out of this. Two stories in our local news today:

Murder your wife by shooting her in the back of the head, and get 19 years behind bars:

SEATTLE - Jennifer Morrison Espitia had told her husband to take it easy on the alcohol after a recent surgery he underwent last year.

But after a wedding they attended in July 2017, 32-year-old Cameron Espitia was drunk, argumentative and armed with a loaded gun. From the back seat of an Uber ride in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle, he took out his gun and shot his wife in the back of the head.
Espitia was sentenced to 19 years in prison Friday in King County Superior Court in a packed courtroom of tearful family and friends. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Oct. 31.

Send pictures of your boob to an underage (15 year old) former student, and face 20 years behind bars. Granted, she has not yet been tried, convicted, or sentenced, but she is facing a possible 20 years:

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — An Andrew Jackson Middle School teacher who is a former Miss Kentucky has been arrested after she was accused of sending nude photos to a former middle school student.

Ramsey BethAnn Bearse, 28, is charged with four felony counts of sending obscene material to a minor.

On Thursday, the deputy met with Bearse, who admitted to sending the 15-year-old at least four photographs of her nude breast/chest area on Snapchat, a social media network, from around August to the end of October. Both the teacher and the teen live in Kanawha County.

A magistrate set Bearse's bond at $10,000 property or 10 percent cash. Her attorney said she would post bond. The magistrate said if she is convicted of the charges she faces 20 years in prison and $100,000 in fines.

I don't get it.

I am surprised it's only 19 years for the murder.

I would be surprised if Miss Kentucky serves any time at all.

And she could send me pics of her boob and face no jail time.

WTF is up with attractive 20-40 year old female teachers being morons with young guys?

I don’t get only 19 years for shooting someone in the back of the head. Seems too lenient to me.
The teacher? I probably would have been scarred for life by seeing pics of the boobs of any adult in my high school. I assume this teacher’s rack was more worthy of the trauma this poor child suffered. Seriously, 20 years is ridiculous, nobody died.

One is an actual sentence, the other is a POTENTIAL sentence. IOW the max possible.

The guy who shot his wife obviously did NOT get the maximum sentence possible, and the bimbo looser teacher won't either.

It's simply amazing to me that there is any overlap whatsoever in the sentencing guidelines for two such widely disparate offenses. I cannot believe that a man can get as little as 19 years for a cold blooded murder. I cannot believe that a woman could get as many as 20 years for showing a 15 year old pictures of her boobs. The kid can go to PG13 movies, can't he? He can certainly see boobs if he goes to one of those.

Two absolute travesties of "justice". In the former, the relatively lenient sentence. In the latter, the fact that authorities are wasting their time - and our money - on such a case in the first place.

Each state sets their own sentencing guidelines. Seattle, very liberal. West Virginny, very conservative. It would be interesting to know what WVs sentence is for murder. And boob pics in Seattle might get you married to Mary Kay Laturno.

Agreed it makes no sense there are not uniform sentences across the states, but you already know how that would go.

Show up to breakfast Saturday and you will be sitting with multiple boobs.

Every one of whom should be in jail by now.

plea bargains really are a lottery and very biased by state
so equal punishment is a bad joke with few laughing except the pigs

BTW she was charged with four felonies.
Each one could have a maximum sentence of UP TO five years, adding up to a maximum of 20.
But she'll likely get a fine and probation, and the murderer will still be in prison.

Seems right to me.

10th Amendment. That inconvenient constitution thingy again.
