Wifey Car: '16 Audi Q5 TDI

Considering a '16 Audi Q5 for the wife. I know, it's a baby seal killer with its extra diesel fumes. Or it WAS a baby seal killer. This one had the "fix" last month.

Has the 3.0 TDI motor (V6 turbo). Post Fix extended warranty from VAG is pretty stout. Basically 120k miles on all the engine internals and fuel/exhaust components. It gets pretty good reviews plus it will tow an early 911 car no problem.

Am I missing anything here? I looked at the pepper car from Porsche, but she says it's too big (story of our marriage LOL)...ANYHoo...Thoughts on the 15/16 Audi Q5 TDI?

Great car......

+1 also heard that it's a great car. What color are you thinking?

Silver or white. She doesn't want black interior. She will be coming out of an '06 BMW 530xi Touring with black interior. The inline 6in the BMW is a sweet motor. Interestingly, the Q5 is 8 inches shorter than her current BMW. That's good for (cough, cough) garage parking reasons. Considered an X3, but it doesn't have near the towing capacity as the Q5. Plus the Q is bigger in the front seat area than the X3.

Q5 tdi

Have 5 or so that I see on a regular basis. Just oil changes and tire rotations, odd brake job. Holds up 1000x better than any Benz/Jeep with the shared diesel. Seating position is weird (to me) compared to the Macan, seems twisted sideways. And the radios turn off in reverse (Audi says for safety). Those are my only complaints for the Q5

Thanks for the info. Funny you should mention Benz/Jeep diesel. THAT is my current DD, - a 2102 e350 Bluetec. I literally just did the dreaded oil cooler seal repair - $2500 - this week. Cost are 80% in labor (very fiddley repair). That said I am at 99,785 miles. Most 2012's BT's needed this fix at the 60k mile mark. I am claiming the record for my 2012 as the most miles on the original oil cooler seal. :) Despite this design flaw, I still dig the Benz. It just goes and gets crazy good gas mileage. Great highway crusier - whcih I do for work.

We have th Q7 tdi. Ours is a 14.
Bigger and heavier than the Q5, and it goes pretty good.
Had it since new and has been reliable.
My wife’s vehicle and she loves it.

I would do a Q5tdi in a minute. I drive a Subaru myself. Can’t justify that much $
For my daily driver.

My wife has a 15 Q5 non TDI. She loves it. It's the right size....Q3 is too small. Wish we would have bought a TDI. Only minor complaint is the sport seats are a little stiff. They look great tho.

I have a 15 golf TDI that has the fix. Gets better mileage post fix. I'd like to trade the golf for a Q5 TDI myself.

Picked it up today. Had to haggle a little bit more when I got there - deleting typical dealer BS fees. Drove it back from about 100 miles in absolutely horrible conditions - fog and pouring rain. Felt the quattro do its thing when I hit some water at about 65 mph.

This thing absolutely scoots off the line with 6 cylinder turbo diesel. Same motor as it big brother Q7 less about 900 lbs. :)

Congrats! I’ve never driven one, but someone in my office has one and it’s a great looking ride!

And ya the post fix warranty from VAG is stout! My dad just picked up a TDI Jetta wagon for less than $9k with a 4yr/54k mile warranty.

Just make sure you dump it before the warranty is up. The diesel emissions components aren't built for long life. My TDI Golf cracked the DEF at 80k miles. $2500 repair at the dealer. I'm soured on VW diesels.

If it was just fixed it should come with a five year warranty. My Jetta did

That sucks. My plan is to go with DEF, EGR delate package out of the UK. Those crazy Brits have been working on this diesel tuning stuff for years.
