I just returned from Cancun with a small package of Cohibas. The large package (full wooden box) was more than $800.

Love these things. Do I need to return to Mexico to get them? Are they not available in my country? Are they perhaps available in Canada?

Forget Mexico. Unless you find a Davidoff shop in a business district in Mexico City, the chances of getting counterfeit Cubans is about 80%. Less than 20% of the Cuban cigars sold in Mexico are real Cubans. Most are Nicaraguan, but Nicaragua grows some awesome tobacco.

I like having a few real Cubas in my humidor as a novelty for guests, but I wont spend the money for my daily smoke or golf cigar anymore. Pardon 64 Annivisarios are a far better option for less. Even the Padron 3000 and 5000s compete with Cubans. If you want a good double Corona, try the Hoyo Monterey Excaliber.

The Partagas Cuban Double Corona is wonderful the closet to it in Dominican is the Partagas Black Labels..that is my favorite.

The Excaliber Maduro Churcill is great as well.

The best cigar I have had is the Partagas 150 anniversary Churchills..those are long since gone.

The Dominican cigars have superseded the Cubans as the expat Cubans have been making cigars with cuban seed there since Fidel took over in Cuba..as with everything state run there is a decline in quality.

I partook of cigars for about 30 years...since April 09 I have only had 2 cigars..12/13.

+1, I have some cohiba robustos in the humidor as I type but can't get that excited about them. The Ramon Allones Special Selected or the El Rey Del Mundo Choix Supreme on the other hand...

Cubans are good, but I miss getting St. Martin (San Martin) cigars from Peru from my local shop/lounge (about 8 years ago). If anyone finds a source please post it.

If you have never smoked a Peruvian puro, I totally recommend it. You will notice that the tobacco is of very high quality and lends a very cubanesque flavor profile to some very popular brands such as the Guillermo Leon line of cigars.......

The San Martin is a unique cigar and I believe the only Peruvian puro on the market..........

Yes, there are a handful of authorized Habanos S.A. distributors in Vancouver. You can search for the legitimate ones on the Habanos site (Habanos s.a - Sitio Oficial).
Most will ship directly to you. In the past, some would ship the cigars themselves "naked" with no rings in one package, and the box/rings in another.
These days, getting a fresh sealed box shipped to your door shouldn't be a problem.

This. But, I'd say it's closer to 99%, unless you can find a legitimate Authorized Habanos dealer/shop. Even then, many will still sell you fakes (especially to gringos).

totally agree. Give me a Arturo Fuente any time. I think Cuban cigars are over rated. Most growers got the heck out of Cuba long ago and took their seed with them.

For the record, I bought three cigars when I got to Isla Mujeres. Tasted and smoke awful. FAKE. I got the Cohibas at the duty free store at the airport on the way out. Authentic, I am confident. Whole new ball game. I would be interested in trying other brands.

I know nothing about cigars. Well I know a bit more than I did two weeks ago. We got back from Cuba on Sunday and had done a cigar and rum excursion. At one point we watched a guy roll a Cohiba and then we smoked a cigar with a rum in hand. I discovered how a rum can smooth out the cigar! What an experience! I may very well take up smoking a cigar once or twice a year. I regularly enjoy a single malt Scotch whiskey, and will try a cigar with that some time. I’m glad there are still things to discover😃

Superman, drop me a line next time you're up in Seattle (I'm just north of the city limits), we can peruse my humidor together and maybe even burn one or two as long as we're not in the midst of another snow storm. But watch yourself, it is a slippery slope... if you don't watch out you could end up like me!

I started in with Fuentes when they were first introduced into the US at least on a big scale back in 90. I always thought they were a good cigar for a modest price. I didn't think they were great and they too have become overrated.

I liked the Romeo Juieletta Reserve Churchill, Excaliber No1 maduro, Partagas Black Label.
