New ride (No Pcar content)

All:

I’m going to do a full restoration on my ‘85 V8 Land Rover Defender this summer, readying it for a life in the Caribbean (in ~2 years). LS engine, new chassis, Puma dash, the whole works. Which will take a while. So I’ve been looking for a short-term DD. Needed to have room for our Great Dane, AWD, and not boring. Wanted to get the wagon version of the wife’s BMW 335Xi, but couldn’t find one (nbot even sure they sold the twin turbo wagon in the USA). Then I saw a 2007 Range Rover L322 (full size) Supercharged on Craigslist in Portland. I thought it was a scam, and also clearly remember Kathryn telling me that if I ever bought another Range Rover, I’d better be prepared to live in it. I got the VIN & called the dealership in Portland. One owner, meticulously maintained, no red flags. Result! It needed a few things but the 4.5 hour drive home went very well with zero issues. Not bad for having 278k on the odometer. Best part is, I paid $4,900 for it!

Cheers,

Paul.

Congratulations, and I hope it works out in the long run.

Yesterday I looked into an old favorite SUV of mine the Isuzu VehiCROSS. The many treads on transmission woes and engine failures reminded me of why I never picked one up even though they are more affordable than ever and will likely appreciate.

After riding in it, I think she was so overwhelmed buy how much quiteter/more comfortable it is than the Defender that I get to stay in the house. Yay!

Nice! I have to confess to being seriously tempted by the prices of modern Range Rovers. At 278k does it still have air suspension or has it been converted to springs?

Don’t know RR’s but my first thought was...you made a $4900 down payment. Almost 300k on a 12 year old Euro SUV...what could possibly go wrong?

Still on air suspension. There’s a later style compressor that’s plug & play if this one goes bad.
